I know one guy who constantly posts these bizarre memes. Although he’s cuckoo for coca puffs I never thought that even he actually believed that insanity. But I am starting to think he really does.

This is a guy I’ve known for a very long time via martial arts. We are just FB friends.

I often snooze his posts and thought about unfriending him. But he occasionally puts up hilarious posts about other topics. He can be entertaining.

But lately this guy is putting up at least 5 flat earth posts a day. Loco. Extremely loco.

I had one I met online on Discord in a philosophy channel and talked to a lot in the past. He actually had an extremely sophisticated model for a flat earth which challenged the very notions we perceive time and space.

It all seems so impractical to me though. I'm much more a pragmatist rather than analyst and very much an empiricist. Believing the earth is round is what allows airplanes fly around it, to put up satellites around the earth's orbit, to reach the moon, etc.

Still, I was rather impressed by the sophistication of his arguments.

I would like to believe that these people deep down know the that’s ridiculous. But they are just doing it to be comical and/or to get attention for being so nutty.

However this guy is unfortunately also a fringe far right Q-anon conservative too. Some of his posts were actually really good but others were way over the top. He’s making moderates look bad.

The one I met in the philosophy channel was quite unorthodox that way. I'm not even sure if he was a theist and never spoke about politics. I think he's more the type who's really a massive fan of David Hume, e. g., with his critiques of epistemology and empiricism and inductive reasoning in general.

I do. He's a Grade-A moron. Some kid in his class did a flat Earth presentation and it convinced him. He told me the classmate made "really persuasive points." And this same gullible dope wanted to storm the Capitol on January 6th. He told his mom, "They stole the election from us!"... thankfully, mommy told him not to go.

I've watched a documentary about Flat Earthers and didn't realize that there's a whole community that believe the earth is flat until then. But personally I've never met one. I guess most of them are Americans.

@blueonblack22 for two reasons. The documentary I watched only had American flat earthers and whenever I see an article of anything related to the flat earth theory it always comes from an American.

Well I’m an American and I think the “flat earth” theory is down syndrome ridiculous.

But I’m fed up of the negative generalizations placed on Americans. The problem is our entertainment and mass industry gets broadcasted worldwide giving foreigners a warped perspective of our culture.

Anyway I used to think those people just made that up as a gag. They just have too much time on their hands. But now I think some of them really believe it. It’s just so insane. .

My brothers girlfriend for example started the conversation about that and just because I said yeah but that’s bs llorar she continues to say things that will make people doubt even when she doesn’t believe it’s flat, she will state all the conspiracies that actually make you think like hmmmm but then no and the will say another lol as if she’s trying to convince others that maybe it IS flat! Even when she herself didn’t actually believe it.

not me. but they have good arguments that people are not prepared for. exposing anti-flat are not really skeptic about stuff they can't see... and exposing hypocrisy when they pretend to be skeptic about god, but not skeptic about other stuff that they did not yet check.
