My problem is much less the ticket prices and much more with the content. Most movies from 2015 on have been nothing more than woke propaganda - sacrificing characters and stories in favor of pushing The Message of identity politics. Those movies will never get a cent of my money - and clearly I'm not the only one, with Warner Brothers and Disney each having 2 years of flops at the box office.
I went to see Top Gun Maverick, John Wick, and Oppenheimer, because they were free of woke propaganda. I have not seen a Marvel film since the first Avengers, and Star Wars is a sick joke. Same with the recent Indians Jones movie.
I don't blame the theater owners - they're just trying to survive. The problem starts at the studios, particularly with Bob Iger at Disney. He hoped to run for US President, and so he packed Disney full of far-left activists and encouraged other studios to do the same, and now the only good movies are from the very few directors that have complete control of their projects. Studio movies are trash, and not worth spending a penny to support. Hell, even illegal downloads of those movies are way down - people aren't willing to watch them for free.
But the few good movies are worth the cost of seeing them in the theater and buying on 4k Blu-ray.
I still love going to Cinema , and man I agree , sometimes it's just me ( weekday arvo ) but the thing is , it's still cheap here , really cheap with a monthly pass.
In Australia ( it's $ for $ ) far more expensive than USA , so I just go on a deal etc.
But the experience is vastly different in a Cinema , no phones , less likely to leave for men's room ,
No talking , no overeating ( for me anyhow ) ..

I still like to go for a movie I know I will enjoy or just to get out of the house. The last good one I went to see was Jujitsu Kaisen O with some friends it was cool to see the action on the big screen.
I think so especially if it's a date night. I recently went to the movies with my boyfriend for Valentine's and it was so romantic. I think it can still be meaningful in cases like that.

Absolutely. I have AMC A-List. I pay $22/month and can see 3 movies a week. I've got an excellent ATMOS set-up at my house but nothing rivals a big screen for some stuff. That said, I do like movie time with my rescue kittens, so a time and a place for everything.
Probably not, but I think there are some movies that benefit from that presentation style.
I saw Oppenheimer in iMax. I basically didn't enjoy the movie and didn't like the fact I paid the costlier iMax ticket price, but I think that you really had to see that movie in theaters.
on rare occassions if the movie sound and screen warrants it. that is rare...
it usd to be $1 at times... now about $15+
that's not crazy expensive given the superbowl is $10,000 and frankly, can't see as much.

My Nana and I go to the cinema. It's our thing. Like how my dad and I build lego sets as a hobby. These are things I will remember them by when they're gone

watching a movie costs like 12 bucks where i live. that is for 2d without any snacks or drinks. to me it's still worth it for movies that have a good soundtrack and great audio design. because you can pretty much get everything but the audio at home for reasonable prices. like you could invest in a 5 figure soundsystem and have that sound at home. but then you'd need a home where the neighbours won't file a noise complaint if you actually used it.
I prefer the home theater option, which the movies on disc.
Its the cinema experience, but without the idiots talking over/spoiling the movie (or the overpriced food).
You also don't need internet or a subscription or movie tickets, and get to keep the movies forever after paying just once.
No, waste of time and money when you have a home theater surround sound system.
Yeah its hard, life gets expensive, but for me the memories are usually worth the price of admission
I have not been to the movies since before covid. A new cinema opened in my town 2 years ago and I still have not gone. I don't think I saw any movie there I would pay 18 bucks to see. I can wait until it is streamed
Only for the bigger screen. But me personally prefer the comfort of my home when watching a movie. Unless I really want to see it ASAP. But with the woke, I've been waiting 'til it's available online.
Yeah it's like £17 for ticket but that does come with a coffee and a slice of cake
£15 for a burger and chips which I usually get as well if I'm honest
Prices are ridiculous. I love the atmosphere of the big screen but it's not affordable for the average South African
some movies are better on the big screen: Lord of the Rings trilogy for example as well as laugh-out-loud comedies and scary movies
Some aren't: Parasite, The Socian Network, Moneyball...

"Meaningful"? I wouldn't use that specific word but I still consider it fun.
To me yeah? I still love going to the theater.. The experience is different than even watching it on a big screen at home..
