Why are canonically dominant and masculine male characters in movies portrayed as submissive twinks in fanarts and fanfictions?

There are many male characters that are canonically masculine but in fanarts and fanfics, they are portrayed as a feminine and submissive twinks and that is so out of character.

For an example in the movie Avatar:the way of water, Neteyam is the first son of Jake and it is canon that he has a strong and confident demeanor and that he wishes to become a mighty warrior like his dad. There is nothing feminine about his character. But in especially Neteyam x Aonung fanart , Neteyam is sometimes shown as a submissive, feminine twink when in reality he is not like that at all. Like they seriously need to stop feminizing and twinkifying Neteyam like that when he is canonically quite masculine and strong. No offense to feminine and submissive men but it doesn't fit Neteyam's character at all and he would literally k! ll himself if he saw these. I don't know why they are doing that.

Also, welcome to the internet. You’re allowed to be upset that your interpretation of canon isn’t the norm, but you can’t control how other people interpret their relationship, not to mention that a lot of people use shipping as a means of exploring something within themselves. Just block what you don’t like on Ao3 and move on. Better yet, make your own fanfic about it and show why your interpretation is the “correct” one.

I run into it a lot too. I love glasses. Whenever I encounter content creators who try to remove glasses in a sexual context, it pisses me off... But that is just the way of things.

No wonder I don't read comic books (Plus, I'm 70.) Concern about gender roles/behaviour of comic book characters. Yeah, just what I thought the world be like when I was a boy and young man.
