What kind of abilities and creatures go into making a good card game?

For abilities, basically making the card as strong as it looks in the picture. Making it be able to do things you’d expect or would easily believe it could do. A very simple and classic example from MTG is flying.

@FreyaRed That helps but its not necessarily the rule either. You can create an original franchise and be successful if you come up with cool unique mechanics and good art. Adding lore doesn't hurt either. It's hard sure but totally possible.
