Is wearing a Disney Pocahontas costume offensive to Native Americans?

I was told that wearing a Pocahontas costume is a terrible idea for Halloween tonight because it’s offensive to the native community. I mean, I’m dressing up as the Disney Pocahontas. I mean, I’ve seen a black girl dress up as Bell or Cinderella or a white girl that’s dress up as Tiana and I don’t feel offended so what’s the big deal? I’m just dressing up for fun. Some older lady in a group was very concerned of me and asked me if I can just change it to something else. I don’t wanna change. I already bought my costume so I can’t turn it back now. I don’t wanna offend anybody. I’m black American, but I have a little bit of Native American roots in me on my mom side. Someone else told me that doesn’t mean anything and I’m still not native I mean, which is true. She has a point and I should return the costume and dress up as something else.

My costume is appropriate and not slutty. I feel like are telling me what to do. I was told, “Fine don’t listen. People are warning you and you’re stubborn. I’m not trying to tell you what to do but you SHOULD CHANGE AND DRESS IN ANOTHER COSTUME. If you get dirty stares and something happens, it’s YOUR funeral.”
