Hi guys and girls. Hope all is well!!!!! I have been enjoying authoring these MyTakes for my consistent readers. This MyTake was requested from one of my readers. I will be posting a follow up MyTake on how to spot a liar in the virtual world once you can successfully detect a liar in the real world.

"How Liars Lie"

Objective: Be able to spot a liar using cognitive skills. Find out if the most important people in your life are trustworthy or dishonest. My hope is that after reading you will be able to understand yourself and others better.

Let's Get Started:

" Don't Believe Everything Someone Tells You"

1. Don't Make Eye Contact👀

When trying to detect a lie pay very close attention to the face first and foremost. If the person is telling you something that seems unbelievable and can't make eye contact they may be lying. This can also be in reverse. Individuals who make too much eye contact and don't seem to blink often could also be lying or trying to manipulate you into believing their story.

2. Repetition🔁🔂

If someone becomes a broken record it could be for a couple reasons. One reason is that they were heavily impacted by the event. The second reason would be to try to convince you and themselves that the stories they are telling are the truth.

3. Change In Breathing👃😤

Usually when someone is lying their breathing picks up and they will seem a little out of breath. Lying has negative physiological effects. Breathing is one of the main things that lie detector machines pick up on.

4. Quick Jerky Motions 👥

Ever notice someone who instantly jerks their head if you ask them a specific question? You may even notice the subtle jerk with their eyes. It has been studied that when people lie they will instinctually look up and to the right. Whereas looking up and to the left can be indicative of honesty. This will not be true for every case.

5. Long Periods Without Blinking 👁️

Pay attention to the face. If someone is blinking too little that it seems unusual in conversation they may be lying. This is an attempt to control and manipulate you.

6. Flushed Skin Or Blushing😳

Flushed skin is indicative of a lie. When you lie you experience an involuntary reflex caused by the sympathetic nervous system which in turn releases adrenaline. Adrenaline increases your heartbeat which can be detected on a lie detector machine. Adrenaline also increases blood flow which is why some individuals will appear red or flushed.

7.They Provide Too Many Details Or Not Enough😬🤐🤫

The amount of detail the story has seems outrageous and excessive. They are doing this to really sell you on the lie. It will come across as overcompensating. Naturally you should question stories that don't contain enough details or huge chunks of the story are missing.

8. They Touch Or Cover Their Mouth🤭

Watch for these gestures. Touching oneself is an act that creates a soothing feeling. It's an attempt to make yourself feel better about not being genuine. Lying can definitely hurt.

9. They Stand Unnaturally Still🤔🗽🗿

Normally we will have a relaxed look or a natural sway. If someone is as still as a tree then be on the lookout for potential inconsistencies.

10. Speaking Very Slowly Or Too Quickly⏩

When someone speaks unnaturally slow it is giving them time to think very diligently before speaking. This in itself does not indicate a lie but depending on context it will be very obvious. If you tell the truth you don't have to remember what you said. On the other side of the coin you can speak very rapidly in an attempt to overwhelm the person with information. When you have a lot of information coming in at one time you don't have time to detect untruthfulness. *This will not always be the case. I am a speedy talker myself due to social anxiety so these signs are very dependent on the individual and the specific situation.

11. It Becomes Difficult For Them To Speak🤐

This is due to the lack of moisture in the mouth. When someone is lying it can make it hard to breathe and cause dry mouth symptoms. Constant throat clearing is the type of behavior to be on the lookout for.

12. Facial Expressions

"The face has 43 muscles which combine to create 10,000 possible expressions." So it can be very easy to determine if someone is being untruthful if their expressions are not matching up with their words.
