I remember when I heard for the first time, someone calling a married couple "selfish" because they didn't have kids. I was taken back by it and wondered how on earth they were selfish for not wanting kids.

It is totally up to an individual (or couple) if they want children or not. I totally respect someone's decision if they don't want kids!

Yeah I agree with you on this thing. I've read that people everywhere tend to be hostile towards people who chose not to have children, it's ridiculous.

Also those who avoid being parents by their own choice don't really feel bad about it in the future, because it was their own choice.

Also, I wouldn't want to have children in the society I'm living in.

I am all for people having the choice to not have children.

So long as they have no choice but to live off of purely their own savings when old, without receiving a cent of tax-payer pension. Why the heck should the children of people who had kids work to support those who purposefully had none? This already is a problem in Eastern Europe - my generation is one which has more old people per young person to support, as opposed to older generations and quite frankly that sucks.

Why should people who choose not to have kids be treated different than those who had kids. What you're basically saying is if you don't have kids you're not entitled to a pension. That's very discriminatory to the people who choose to not have kids, don't get me start on people who can't have kids at all (maybe they are infertile)

      @Tomsta
"Why should people who choose not to have kids be treated different than those who had kids."
Because they live in a society and having children is one way how to contribute. Again, if they chose to not have children, surely they must have invested time and effort into their career and thus have nothing to worry about when it comes to savings, no?

"What you're basically saying is if you don't have kids you're not entitled to a pension."
      Pretty much, yes.

"hat's very discriminatory to the people who choose to not have kids"
And as I said, not having them on purpose will be discriminatory to the kids when they grow and have to support an additional weight.

"don't get me start on people who can't have kids at all (maybe they are infertile)"
That's a whole other case. Notice how I did in fact include the word ''purposefully'' when talking about childless people.

Those who are old and childless paid tax throughout their working life as much as the ones with kids. During their working years they receive no benefits from the government, tax cuts, or coupons. They also use less medical support since those with kids require free vaccination and children get sick a lot. Not to mention the cost of healthcare for pregnancy, labour, and after care for the mother. Childless adults take less days off from work and they take no maternity or paternity leave.

A single mother or father will even require more support. With housing and shelter services paid by working tax payers. Simply because they can't afford full time jobs and daycare. A single woman or man without kids is not a liability they're the ones who work full time and bust their ass so the single mothers can live with degninity and their children can have a decent life. Don't let me even start on how much tax money is spent on social security, child services, juvenile prisons, orphanages and adoption because people want children but can't care for them or abuse them. Some raise thugs and criminals and all that cost is paid by the tax payer including those who chose not to have kids.

And you are telling me that childless old people shouldn't get pension! learn how to do math and calculate social economy costs first dude because that's the most illogical thing I read today

@mindNsoul "Those who are old and childless paid tax throughout their working life as much as the ones with kids."
Yes but their government handed pensions will come from tax payer money. Said tax payers are the generation of kids that they never had.

The healthier and more provided the kids grow up, the more they will be able to contribute back to society so that this contribution would pay off. Some falling out of this line doesn't change the fact that it is an overall benefit, whereas an aging population (which happens when childless people grow old) is not.

To me it sounds like you're trying to demonise people who choose to not have kids by say they aren't entitled to the same societal benefits that EVERYONE is entitled to regardless of whether you're impoverished or from the upper class

Using your logic are you saying that people who choose not to drive should not be allowed to use the roads and pavements ever; it's the same thing. Both of those are provided by the tax payer

Pension is calculated by your contribution during your working years. Every country have different tax cuts for pension but it is not something someone else's pay for you dude. So when you work they deduct a percentage of your salary. Some countries allow private pension in addition to the basic cut. Your employer also pays and then the collaborative tax payers do. Some people would die before even collecting their well deserved pension.

Your theory would only work if childless people are tax exempted from anything that goes to welfare, family courts, orphanage, social services, schooling and Healthcare. Why should a childless person contribute to the welfare of the children and families of others! If a single woman with no kids lose her job she can end up homeless but if she sleeps with a homo and get pregnant she gets government support and housing. Comes with it schooling and welfare. If a teen girl gets pregnant is the same without her having even to work and pay tax a day in her life. It is a lifelong liability to everyone else who chooses to work their ass off. Childless people have higher economical value to a society compared to their counterparts who have children and we all pay for pasic services and welfare.

Now, I am not against having children. I am just highlighting the fact that it is not cheap and we all pay for it. Many get benefits and don't pay because they have kids. And it's fine by me but when I'm old having contributed my whole life I would demand a pension. Because I paid my way for it every single month.

I remember running a department with three pregnant women. It is not a good financial hit for a business but morally we all support and absorb these costs. My sister was on a one year fully paid maternity leave because people like me pay for it. If you are an orphan or low income family in my country everything is paid for until your PhD if you chose to atudy. With pocket money and housing. Even stationary and school uniforms. You are tax exempted if you are on welfare.

I on the other hand, paid for my own education and I hold a masters degree. I paid for my own car and house and I pay my contribution as tax for my pension. My employer does as part of their Tax cut by the law. I pay for my own medical treatments if ever I was sick. I have health insurance and I've rarely used it. So my contribution in Healthcare goes mostly to those families. As I am a healthy young woman and rarely ever get sick.

Don't forget that many kids are broke or do not chose to take care of their parents so basically their parents where a liability to make them and a liability when they're placed in care homes or receive pension. What a fair game for the rest of us. So if you're telling me that all that is not worth it than fine. Exempt me from all taxes paid for anything that doesn't directly contribute to me. And I will save money for my pension and won't use other people money. Let only those who have children pay for the cost of having children in a society and not me.

@Tomsta No one should be ''entitled'' to anything to begin with.

"Using your logic are you saying that people who choose not to drive should not be allowed to use the roads and pavements ever"
-People who do not drive still benefit from roads anyway - they use public transportation, they walk on them, and all of their supplies are delivered on said roads so no, you can in no way comapre roads to children.

Me too I find it utterly disgusting that someone is coming out through me. Like EWW. After watching both cesarean and labor videos. Plus it will only be a normal unpredictable human being. I'm not gonna ruin my body and life so that he/she can pay me back after I'm 55. What's the point?

He/She may won't even pay me back and might selfishly forget me. So it's a big No. I know sounds like I can't love unconditionally. But there's not reason to.

Its normal. Having children is not a necessity in life. Also, it is way better than not being fir enough to be a parent and having a child despite that.

Exactly. People think we are selfish for not having kids because parents want grandchildren, relatives want nephews or nieces, society can't see you living your life on your own terms and they're pissed off because you aren't following them.

Yeah. What's selfish is parents pressuring their kids into having kids just because they want to be grandparents.

They think it's selfish because you're not offering your body and soul to another human being you don't want. Some people seem to act personally persecuted by childfree people because they're miserable. Misery loves company.

Is it normal to choose to not have children? Early in a marriage is yes it is normal. Water you have been married for perhaps 5 years, it is not the norm. Most people choose to have children;. therefore, choosing any other option is not normal.

I think the way the world is now sadly makes it a sensible decision to not have children. I'd love kids myself but I wouldn't have them for selfish reasons.
