AITA for yelling at my sister for calling my friend the N-word?

I'm an 18-year-old guy. My friend is 19 and my sister is 14. I'm white and my friend is black.

So I invited my friend over to play video games. But we couldn't play because my sister was playing GTA V on the PS4 and we don't have other gaming consoles. My friend and I ended up having to play cards instead. About two hours later, I asked my sister if she could let us play and she replied "Fine, but let me finish the race." But before I could reply, my friend said: "Oh, cut it out. You don't need to finish the fucking race. You fucking suck at this game anyway. There's a reason girls don't play video games." My sister got really mad. She got to her feet and screamed: "Who cares about your opinion? Who cares about what you think? You're just a fucking n***er that can't do anything else than insulting people. Besides of being a n***er, you're also a sexist!" My friend proceeded to call her a "ugly blonde and blue-eyed bitch." My sister then felt insulted and kicked him in the balls. Afterwards, my friend yelled: "So you're fighting dirty? Fine, I'm not playing with you anymore!" He then turned around and told me: "I really wonder how I became friends with you. I always thought you were nice, but I didn't know you came from a racist family. Have fun with your stupid sister!" He then walked out the door and slammed it.

After he left, I began to yell at my sister for what she said and told her that she should be careful next time because it could get her in trouble. Well, she started crying and saying that I'm a bad brother for not standing up for her. She then told me she hates me. That was the last thing she said to me.

Ok, mostly, not the asshole. It doesn't matter what race your friend is or what sex your family member is, both acted dumb in that situation. Seems to me, your sister is possibly learning the wrong things somehow and this pushed it over the edge to come into the light. Your sister did take like two hours or more to get off, even though more than likely, you and your friend have a limited amount of time to do stuff. There IS a chance it came out of your sister's bias, even unconsciously, to purposefully do that, at least somewhat. But not enough evidence to confirm. Your friend on the other hand, first said, "cut it out" which may have hinted he thought she was taking her time on purpose, and I did say before I reread that, perhaps she was. Though, your friend did act really dramatically, as it was a bad situation of him vs her. You were nuetral and so were the rest of your family, so it's unreasonable on his part to make the assumptions he did. Lastly, she looks up to you. Perhaps a bit too much. Could be a sign of low self esteem. What I suggest if possible, is to tell your sister games are just games, nothing to get too upset over and to also remind her to 1. watch her words and 2. Not react violently unless with a dire need. If your friend talks a big game, tell him to prove it and see if he can help train her/improve her score within a given set of time. If he is that much better at games, he'll likely kno some sort of method, somehow, to improve her performance in some way. Hopefully, the little sacrifice of time ill build tolerance between those two, as they will both likely deal with much worse if they continue those actions. If you care about them both, you'll help em both.

Seriously though, you could have defused it right away by telling your friend to not talk to her that way before she responded and then once she finished her race you both could have played. Your friend is the majn one at fault here for the situation though.

Also your friend definitely shouldn’t be talking to your sister like that , I read that you said y’all have been friends for awhile so maybe he thought y’all were comfortable enough to kinda shit talk eachother or your younger sister like that. Because ik guys can play around like that but if he wasn’t playing then u should’ve maybe de-escalated the situation after your friend said something to ur sister.
