To spank or not to spank?

In most US states it's legal for teachers and parents to spank. So my questions are
1. Would you ever spank a child
2. If you did, up to what age do you think it's acceptable for you or a teacher to do so

A mom calls 911 to report that her husband is acting erratically after an altercation with the neighbors, but ends up spanking her adult son

In certain scenarios it is okay, but I'd only use it if the child was doing something genuinely dangerous. Overusing spanking can cause it to become less effective ans more abusive, so save it for when all else fails or for when the child is doing something genuinely dangerous either to him/herself or others.

The problem with spanking is it teaches that violence is a solution when you can't figure out how to get someone to understand you. If that's the direction we want to go, fine, but we need to be honest about it.

I was spanked as a child. Let me tell you when you get a spanking you don't repeat whatever bad thing you did. It may be seen as child abuse in a lot of places but I don't think it should be. When I was spanked as a child ya it hurt but I didn't do it again. As long as you don't over do it there's no problem.

I disagree 110% i was spanked as well but it only made me resent my dad and i acted up even more. Maybe it was good in your case and i'm happy it worked out for you but all child experts says that it does not work and is only going to stop the behavior for a short time but get worse later and it leads to increased aggression, antisocial behavior, mental health problems, physical injury to self and others. But parent's who were spanked is much more likely to repeat the cycle because they think it worked on them without seeing the whole picture (I'm not saying your one of those people i'm just saying what the experts say)

I never spanked my kids. I diidn't want them to grow up thinking violence is okay.
