How would you feel if your estranged adult child refused to visit you while you were terminally ill?

Why is my child estranged? For example, if I was the kind of father that beat his children every day, then I would probably understand.

If people apologize sincerely is is cruel to not accept. Buy sometimes things are so broken that they can't be fixed. One visit will not be too much?

Because you sent them to a psychiatric hospital as a teen on account of a misdiagnosis.

Hard to say without knowing more. I know sending my kid to a mental hospital would be a last resort and I wouldn't take one doctors word on it.

Or you could just not get any doctors involved in the first place.

If you don't know how to help your child it is perfectly reasonable to reach out to other resources.

If you don't know how to help don't do anything at all. Why do we have to pretend that parents should do whatever they can and not let these things go.
