What to expect when I look at my biracial son the first time?

Stop, get down off the the soap box… I’m excited and will love him immediately.

I’m white, my wife brown. It’s not lost on me that it’s very likely when I see him for the first time I won’t see a likeness to myself.

I have blue eyes, blonde hair… zero chance my son gets those. White features, my son most likely won’t get those either…. So just curious what it’ll be like to expect to see a younger spitting image of myself and possibly see no resemblance?

Is it a shock. Doesn’t it matter. Do you default to personality likeness… just what’s the experience going to be.

You’ll see a resemblance, probably more when he grows up. Congrats on the baby by the way.


I’m mixed. My father is Japanese and black. My mother is white. I obviously didn’t look like my father because I had curly hair, fair skin, freckles, and hazel eyes. Spitting image of my mother. However, I have my fathers nose, cheekbones, and eye shape.


You’ll probably see a small resemblance of you in certain facial features as he grows up. Trust me, you’ll notice them! Don’t forget personality too!!! It’s always interesting how genetics work, you never know who they’re going to look like more, mother or father. But, you’ll still love them regardless and still be admiring their appearance.
