I just feel like if I am not doing something mainstream like partying or chilling with friends, I’m not having the real fun. There’s just too much pressure to “have fun” on your birthday.
What do you guys think? And how do you guys celebrate?
Happy birthday!
I have not really cared about birthdays since I was a kid.
On my 40th birthday I was not at home. I was working in another state in a town where I only knew a couple of people, and didn't know them well. My birthday fell on a Saturday so I didn't work. I was living in a motel for the summer and thought "what the heck, it's my 40th birthday and I'm sitting in a motel room doing nothing". So I decided to take the company Jeep and go four-wheeling in the mountains. It wasn't rough and tumble kind of four wheeling - just taking mountain roads that I wouldn't take in a car. It passed the day.
Having a summer birthday, plus traveling a lot in the summer meant I had a lot of birthdays in motels or out on the road somewhere. I don't remember most of them though.
Thank you!
Oohh that sounds interesting ig being on the road and all
My birthday's on January first, so not only do I get shafted on Christmas presents, but on the day itself, most people are too hung over to do anything fun. So for me, it's more a day of reflection and contemplation, thinking about the past year and the one coming up.
And Beethoven. I sit in a pitch-black room and listen to all nine of his symphonies, back to back. Yeah, it takes a while, but it's SO worth it. For the record, if you do so and get to the final movement of the ninth WITHOUT leaping to your feet and banging your head, singing along in gibberish German, the only acceptable excuse is knowing the words and singing along in ACTUAL German. Anything else means you're legally deaf.
