Nowadays would a 19 year-old kid be capable of being a responsible father?

My maternal grandparents were young when mom was born. Grandma was just 18 but grandpa was young too. He was just a 19 year-old college kid.

Yet, they settled down, had two more kids and are still together. Both my younger sister and I are currently pregnant so yes now they're going to be great-grandparents at just 65 and 66 years old.

But honestly, if a college kid becomes a father at just 19 years old and lets say he does stays like grandpa (doesn't bail), would he still be mature to be a father? I can't help it. He's just a kid and his brain still needs to fully develop. That's too young even for a woman to be a mother.

How mature is he and how was he trained. Your word "bail" threw me for a sec... as in "bailed out". Try this "bail"... he spent his weekends "bailing hay"... e. g. he worked his but off and his father made him own up to responsibliity, to get up at 5:30 am and work til sundown for "peanuts". He got his rear end "whooped" when he did wrong. Ther eare still familes that whip and beat their kids to discipline them. He learned work ethic, responsibility, values, honors his parents and family, and maybe he has a "higher power".. aka God.

Such a knucklehead might still be a party to getting a girl pregnant (cause we all know what those girls are like sometimes don'e we?) but would have a chance to be a responsible father. That training would apply to other types of skills be it computers, or car washing. It's training.

Most boys I see today... nope, they won't be. A few will.

By technicality and what Humans as a species use to be in terms of lifespan 19 would be on the back end. The idea until we have the current medical standards the idea of living was only months old to late 20's.

Its basically just diets and medical capabilities that are allowing people to live past 30s Yes that means our like 5+x great grandparents probably lived half our like life spans.

Modern people would lose their minds if they actually grasped how far technology has gone. The idea of living past 60+ is like a 300 year concept >.> the present day humans are taking life for granted.

I may be close-minded by saying you should wait until at least after 24 to have kids. Bringing a child into the world and not having a super solid education and job is risky. Especially with the cost of living. But, if the mother/father has a solid place to live and a job they won’t lose, it’s up to them to have a baby. I think it’s best to enjoy your college years though, I’ve heard they are fun.

I'm actually 24 and will be 25 by the time my baby is born. It's a good age. My younger sister is just 20; yeah that's young still.
I can't help but think what must have gone to my grandpa's mind back then when he was a father so young, how his mind processed it all? A 19 year-old to me is still a kid.

I was 19 when I got pregnant and married and single handedly financially supported my family while my husband finished up grad school. So yeah, it is possible. My husband and I now both have successful careers, own a house, and have our child in a private school.

It depends on the kid.

At 19 I was pretty wild, but I had dropped out of school and I had a good job working in the oilfield already. As far as being ready to take care of a child I was a pretty nice guy so I'm sure I would've bought diapers, formula, baby clothes, and been by the mother's side through it.

That's just me though. I did get a high mark on my babysitter's test in school without even studying or showing up for class most of the time.

The way things are today it would be difficult be stable enough to raise a child at that age. Things were different back then. Even a 19 year old that is there for their kid will likely need help from the grandparent.

yeah my grandparents did received support from their parents back then too. Base on what I've been told he's been always a mature kid for his age and since his parents helped out, that explains it. Still... he was young and sometimes I wonder if he ever thought that he might have felt he missed out on some things, on some fun, etc.

There are 17-year-olds who, with parental consent, enlist in the military and who are tough as nails by 19. But most guys that age now are not that way. A lot do not even have driver's licenses yet.

I’ve seen five yr old kids looking after their siblings because the parents where off their nuts on some substance they were abusing. Humans are adaptable lifeforms.. especially when given no other choice.

Anything is possible. The question is, is it likely? Considering people don't "grow up" and mature until at least like 27 nowadays, I'd say it's less likely than likely.

I think it's too young for a mother or father. You're just trying to start out in the world and you probably don't have the money to have a kid that young. Why would any Sane Person want to have a kid or be a father that early when you're just trying to establish yourself first?

Some people just like starting their family early. There isn't a need to establish yourself first when you can start your family first then grow with them

I think my mom was an accidental, unplanned pregnant and they just chose to work it out and succeeded.

It should only be done if the woman or an underaged child was legitimate raped. If I were raped (forced into something I didn't want), I think forcing the woman to carry a rapist's baby is cruel.

If they're responsible yes. My husband became a father at 17 and we had our 2nd by the time he was 19. It was honestly the perfect time to start our family. I can't imagine doing it any later or else we would have been behind in life.

Depends on the kid, if the parents teach them well, a 16 year old could be a good parent. Some kids are too immature and weren't ever taught well so being a parent are something they would suck at. same applies to adults.

The times were different. My parents were WW2 vets and my father joined the Army at 18. Hitler made them grow up a little earlier than normal
