Trending & News You're not alone. Narcissism is incredibly difficult to deal with, especially when it's family you can't escape. You claim you've done the healthy option- you set boundaries. I say that you keep to those boundaries, and hold them accountable. There will be crying. There will be screaming. There will be blame, and so much more. But those boundaries are necessary and holding the people to those boundaries is critical.
If they cross the lines you set, as soon as you can get your kids out of the situation, do so and get yourself out.
My parents are like that. I love them to death but it's so hard for me to spend time around them and I'd really like to be able to go to them for advice without them trying to steer me in the direction of the same mistakes they made.
They're both so unhappy but think they did everything in life perfectly.
Avoid them at all costs. I distance myself from anything that's toxic to me including my father.
Yes I keep ny distance from ex husband, grandmother, and mother all toxic and full of drama
