One of my ex-roommates owes me a lot of money. They owe me almost $3,000 because they would eat over $700 to $900 of food per month and I was the one out of the 3 who spent $400-$600 on food a month. The one who is threatening to take me to court only paid $200 a month on food and the 3rd roommate only paid $100 on food a month. The internet was under the roommate who ate $700 a month of food and did tell me that she would pay me back for all the food she had eaten but never did. After the 3rd roommate moved out, the one who Paid only $200 on food allowed me to use her internet in my home and I offered to continue her account and pay for the bill. She never contacted the internet provider to have a return label sent to my address so that the modem can be sent back. Now she is threatening me if I do not pay the internet bill in a month that she will be taking me to court. Technically she owes me money and should pay off the internet bill and pay me the rest of the money that she owes. She lived with me for 6 month! Who is in the right and who is the wrong? Should she pay the bill and pay me the rest or should I let her take me to court? I can’t afford a lawyer because I work only part time and barely have enough to pay bills. After I lost my other job, I was without a job for 4 months leaving me behind in bills. I am slowly catching up. I paid off a few debs already. What is your opinion on this?

She's probably bluffing but let her take you to court.
You don't need a lawyer for small claims. Just gather every single document, texts, and whatever ever kind of possible evidence you can find to help with your case.
Judges want proof, not hearsay
She is telling my friend who is her best friend. She doesn’t even contact me herself and tell it straight to me.
Fuck that bitch. Destroy her
You're worrying about nothing. She's spreading rumors just to frighten you. She can't afford to hire an attorney who will charge her thousands more than she would be awarded.
Her only option is small claims court and she'll have to pay the small claims court fees (which she cannot sue you for) and then the burden of proof is on her. If she takes you to court, great. Then you can counter sue for your $3000. Small claims does have a monetary cap of ($2500?).
