On occasions like birthdays and xmases? She’s rich, so she gives me expensive gifts. I’m poor, so I’ve been buying good quality jewellery from secondhand stores and passing it off as new jewellery. Is it ok to keep doing that, provided that the jewellery is good quality?
It's not a competition and your friend, if she is a real friend, knows your not rich and doesn't care about that. It's the thought that counts and as long as you pick something that shows you thought about it, if she's a friend she'll like it.

You do not need to match their gifts, but if you are poor you can always craft your own personal gifts.

Nothing wrong with what you're doing. However, I would quit with the charade and just talk to her about giving reasonably priced gifts or put a budget on it.
Financial advice, that's what I give my rich friends, they made hundreds of thousands upon that information
