Is colorism among Latinos still prevalent, parents encouraging us to go after whites only?

Anonymous

This is base on my real life story.

As a Latina of a lighter tone (not white but not fully indigenous either), my mother used to encourage me to get married to a tall, German fellow with blonde hair and blue eyes or another one of pure European genes. She's been telling me this years ever since I was a kid. Her own words once were (not mine, her words) ''That way your kids will be pretty. I'll have beautiful grandchildren''.

She also stated that since I have a good height myself (I'm 5'7) then getting with a very tall man will likely get me strong, tall kids. She used to tell me to select good, to go for those types and don't go for ''common indigenous types''.

Coindentally, I only like two groups of men; either other Latinos that aren't fully dark nor totally indigenous (mixed is ok) or white men. I have no attractions towards the other groups.

I'm just slightly darker than my mom but still with a lighter tone meanwhile my mom is white. Ironically she married my father, a tanned skinned man. It's like she wanted to select white continue with white color, for it not to disappear.
