For those of you who operate a business, how do you deal with family members that want a free service?

I have a small business but hate it when family members ask for services and don’t pay me and expect free service just because they are family. Am I a jerk for thinking or being bothered by this?

I guess that depends. My dad owns a business and he has always given away free service to his family. My dad is a family man though. If you are bothered by it, add that boundary onto your family. It’s your business

Just refuse. It’s a business. If it costs you in terms of time, labor and materials it’s going to cost them. You might offer a small family discount if you’re generous. But free? Fuck no.
