Have a drink. Pet the cat. Cry. Get a good night's sleep.
Wake up and realize that although you miss them, they made a choice and they miss out on who you are.
Then you move on. One hour, day, week, month at a time.22 Reply

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 ySome people drift apart, and they don't always have a reason - like a big blow out fight that would make sense as to why things are strained (or over).
I had a best friend in late high school and early college who got heavy into hardcore "frat" life. I was not into that. We drifted. It sucked, but... eh. Years later, we became facebook friends, things sort of sputtered... then he just unfriended me. Very weird, but people are like that.
I have another friend who is like a brother. I would like to think it's going to last us most of our lives, but who knows? If he insists on dropping all of a sudden, then, well, not much I can do other than try to check up with him... but if he ignores any posts, calls, etc, then that's on him. It would suck, but I would eventually make other friends.
I can't force others to want to be a part of my life. All I can do is try to keep being a good friend, try to contact them on occasion... wish them the best, and that's about it. Do your best to think of them with the best intentions, don't talk crap about them (even if they were kind of crappy people)10 Reply
+1 yI just recently lost contact with a very close friend I have had for over 50 years. My mother passed away and he said something in an e-mail that I thought was incredibly insensitive. I have not contacted him since and won't unless he sends me an apology... which after knowing him all these years, I highly doubt he ever will. Likelihood is we will never talk again. Just like that. Poof.
These things happen. You will lose friends along the way. Many times it is a signal that your lives are just taking you in different directions and it doesn't always have to be a parting on a bad note. Sometimes you just need to let it go. It is always better when it just kind of fades away than when it ends on a bad note. But either way, I think you eventually come to terms with it, wish them well and get on with your life. You always have the good memories to take with you.

+1 yI'd be a little surprised and this actually happened to me a couple years ago I was best friends with this girl who I'll call M and we were super close until we started 6th grade but then out of nowhere she just stopped talking to me and I still don't know why

Asker+1 yI’m sorry to hear that
+1 yDrop them. Don’t waist your time on people who don’t want to actively be in your life. Some people are only meant to be in your life for a little while whilst others are meant to be in your life for a lifetime.

Asker+1 yIt’s hard to let go when they’re your childhood friend we’ve been friends for 11 years

I know, believe me I do
+1 yJust let them go, I had to do that with someone who I thought I've known since 1999. Just drifted apart, and she refused to talk to me.
Can't keep holding onto something that isn't going to change for the better. At least I found two people who was actually there for me.

+1 yAsk her why since she problaby has a reason to leave you. And then learn from your mistake grow. Apologize if you did something wrong and move on:)
20 ReplyMet someone who asked if they could be friends with me I said yes few months later all of a sudden she completely changed like she has a grudge against me every time I see her. I didn’t do anything to her but I must move on even if it gets awkward when I see her
00 Reply453 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. You let them go. Can’t force someone to be in your life if they want out. This happened to me and it’s not easy but you will meet new people who can make good or better friends. You’re still young. It’s like dating. They want out, bye bye 👋.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yAccept it and move on most times they are toxic any ways!
If she is a love then I'd tie her up and spread her legs one or two more times before letting her go forever

Been there done that.
The only thing that can be done is to move on. I know its painful but know that billions of people have been through the same.
