Would it be financially smart to go all out for a a 1 year olds birthday party?

I’m thinking a small get together, with one cupcake for him to taste and a”Word Party” theme where Myself, my sister and parents wear Word Party shirts and a few decorations will be enough. I see so many people throw lavish parties for their child’s first birthday. I have even seen a few parents dress their kids in designer outfits but I never understood it because It’s not like they’re gonna remember any of it.

Anything a child will grow out of or not remember isn’t with it in my opinion. If you’re questioning it, just do whatever YOU are comfortable with. The younger years are more for you than them. Don’t get me wrong it’s always about them but like you said they won’t rem it. Your call! I have a 9 year old and this is just MY opinion. Take care!

Yea that’s the thing, I don’t want it to be about me or for me because it isn’t my birthday but I know my son can’t talk clearly enough to say “Mommy this is too much.” Lol so I can be logical and say “This day is about him and not me and since that’s the case, do what you know works for him.” And that’s what I’m leaning toward. keeping it simple until he turns like 4-5.

What I mean for you than them is that you remember them, he won’t. Keep it simple is my suggestion, don’t “overdo” yourself or compete with these “photo moms” just be you. You got this!! :)

Throwing over the top parties for a 1 year old is ridiculous and a waste of money. That child won't even remember the day at all. I just think those people are attention seekers making the day more about themselves than about their child.

I'm just doing something very small and intimate. Mostly likely just for me and my child. Like happy 1st birthday banner and some ice cream cake and a few presents

I honestly wouldn't I think something small is perfect. I'd much rather keep stuff small than spend a lot of money on huge fancy parties as you said they won't even remember plus I'd rather put that money in a bank account for their future than spend it on stupid stuff.
