I have a friend that I haven’t seen in person in 5 years who I have started to get very close with and was curious as to how to know if he’s interested…
I told him I was supposed to come to his state to see family and he was happy until he found out that I couldn’t go anymore. He’s very open and vulnerable with me about things going on in his life and I can tell that there is a turning point in the dynamic

So here is the deal, you crushed his soul. He got excited and then, you pulled that out from under him. So now he is like questioning everything... because the reality of the situation is hitting home. Like I am not ever going to see this person.

I mean that the crux of the situation, making that time to be together in-between meets. So, you got me thinking happy thoughts to be being like damn it!

I do not know how things work out; I have not penitence or patience for it. Two to three weeks tops if we have not meet in person, I lose interest. But for a guy like me I could have date 20 other women in that 5-year span and maybe found the right one while I was holding out on you.

I think before you delve into that and put the potential to date on the table, you should very seriously consider if an LDR relationship is feasible. As another comment said, that arrangement can be painful, but it’s not impossible by any means. I think that as long as there’s a solid plan in place to close the distance (and I don’t mean fantasizing and hoping, I mean a set in stone plan) then one or both of you will likely get tired of distance. So if you can actually be together, then I’d say to just tell him how you feel. Don’t wait around for signs, otherwise for every pro you’ll create a con based off your own worries and insecurities. You aren’t losing anything by confessing how you feel, so don’t worry about that. Instead, think about how you’d be making yourself suffer by having feelings and being too afraid to share them. He will either reciprocate or he won’t and if he doesn’t, yeah it’ll hurt but it won’t kill you.

Start talking romance and see how he does!

Is he romantic or just boring dates? Does he like thinking of you that way or just as a friend?

Try and stay away from sex or he might just make it all about sex no more friendship!

Long distance relationship is very painful, I have been in relationship with a girl for 5 years, we tried to meet in person but when ever we tried, there was some mishappening, I helped he with money to travel to me but unfortunately she met accident, I convinced my parents to accept her, they agreed, but when she did not come due to accident, my parents consider her a Cheater and bluffer, so they refused to accept her, whereas she converted to my religion and her friend tried to convince my parents, and she promised to share Immigration charges with the girl, to travel to me, even then my parents did not accept, so we break up for ever

i don't think that means he likes you romantically. i mean, anyone who reconnected with a friend, started talking to them, knowing they were going to visit would get excited and then bummed when it was cancelled.
