How do you know if your long distance friend likes you?

He jokes about hooking up with me- but we've been friends for ages (like six years) and see each other only every 2-3 years. He can go like 6 months without talking to me, but then spend his whole work day emailing me back and forth and flirting.

I know he cares about me- and is there for me, to talk about anything- but he's coming to visit. and I can't tell if he's going to make a move.

Well mine lived on the other side of the country. We just talked a lot and sent pictures and letters always imagining we were there. No we ended up splitting up and we are still best friends to this day. We went out 2 years ago.
