How long did you wait before getting a new dog?

I waited as long as it took to find a new dog. It usually takes me a month or two to find the right one

Getting a new dog right away eases the pain from the loss of your fur baby. I've had a little terrier, a German shepherd, a Havawart and now a black lab/pit mix.

Pure breed golden retriever, he passed from lymphoma cancer on Christmas Day. He Was a beautiful fun dog his name was max, I love that guy so much.

They really are like everyone I was sad or just really in a down mood he’d come to my door and scratch it then he’d just sit with me, but pure breeds life spans are not as long.

it's been 16 years or so, and I still just can't...

I didn't "choose" to have cats about four years ago... Luna cat was a rescue that got lost and ended up at my backyard while a kitten, and she was looking a lot like my Luna dog, same eyes, very similar coat... and then I could just not leave her

but maybe one day... I'll have children and they will grow up with doggos too

Never did. My childhood dog in college living with me. I insisted on being there til the end, and seeing that pink stuff go in and her just zone out and stop breathing just killed me.

My wife brought her cat and she’s a vindicate bitch. So’s the cat.

I have not had a dog since I left my parents' home. I have had cats. I had a few who died and I got other cats fairly soon because, with rare exceptions, I never have just one cat. I usually have at least two cats, and the surviving cat needs companionship.

Not a dog, but my cat died in January of 2022 and I’m still not over it enough to get another.

No, they have too much overhead and having a pet is too sad because eventually they will die.

Have 3 kids who are used to having pets. They aren't able to really differentiate between them yet but they would notice if one was missing. So yeah I would replace the dog or cat the same day. We have 2 dogs 3 cats
