Why do some mothers feel the need to show off with how successfull their kids are?

It’s giving me second hand embarrassment because I would never do that even if my kid was the most accomplished person in the world.

My mother's this way. She was an awesome mother. And she raised 5 of us. That's a full plate! And sometimes I think she regrets that she didn't have a "career" (not regret us). So I routinely try to remind her my successes are her successes. That I could not have achieved all I have without her love and support. And so I think a lot of times she makes my successes bigger than they are because she doesn't feel she got her moment to shine. Which is a shame because one thing life has taught me is money and titles do not make you better person. But the love you give some can last a lifetime and can ripple for generations. So she did shine very brightly and still does.

Yeah but the mothers daughter that was compared to me is not even more successfull than me so why compare in this case? I don’t get it

Well like I said. Mothers have a way of thinking their kids can do no wrong. Or do little wrong. I don't why that is. I guess I'd have to be a mother to understand that.

It's like when you get a new dress, you want to show it off, right?

I wouldn’t do this with my child even if she was the most accomplished girl on the world. And the mothers daughter is not more successfull than I am so why would she try to show off with her daughter? Like no one cares

I assume it is because they gave up their dreams of being successful to be a mother. So then they live through their children's success to feel good about themselves.

Yeah but their children are not more successful than I am so why compare?

Many of them are only like to compare their sons/daughters because of ignorance.
