Lots of things.

We live on 30 gorgeous acres of oak grassland and treat the majority of it as a nature preserve that has never been disturbed by humans, other than Native Americans who may have hunted and gathered in the area before Europeans arrived.

We have a grid-tied solar voltaic system.

We have our own very efficient septic system. All of the waste water goes back into the ground once it is filtered.

We have our TV, home entertainment and WiFi plugged into power strips that we turn off when not in use so as to reduce phantom electrical usage.

We use low wattage light bulbs.

We keep the thermostat for our propane furnace set on 64 degrees.
We don't have an AC system. Instead, the summer, we move our evaporative cooler into one of our living room windows. We use fans and occasionally run the window AC unit in our bedroom on hot nights. It's in the 90s with spells as warm as 110 here on summer days.

Our well pumps water into a 2500 gallon water tank automatically when needed and we gravity feed water from the tank down to our house and yard.

We have fruit trees, blackberries and herbs, and grow veggies in pots and grow bags (voles get our veggies if they are planted in the ground).

We have flowers and flowering bushes that the bees, butterflies and other pollinators love. We also have water bowls for bees, a birdbath, and bird feeders.

Everything is fed by a drip irrigation system which we turn off during the rainy season so as to conserve water and the electricity to run the well pump.

We have a couple of bat houses.

We compost and use it in our gardens. We even grow red worms in the compost.

We use zero chemicals in our yard.

We have our orchard, veggie gardens and some flowers fenced, but deer and other animals sometimes browse in the rest of our yard.

I relocate the occasional errant rattle snake in our yard to other parts of our property so that they can continue doing the good work of keeping vermin under control. Rattle snakes are around, but they are good guys and don't want to bother anybody.

We support local organic farmers and people who raise animals compassionately and organically. We buy mostly from them instead of from factory farms and big ag.

We won't buy GMOs and avoid produce that was grown with the use of agricultural chemicals.

We avoid packaged products as much as possible so as to minimize garbage.

We reuse, repurpose, recycle and repair as much as possible.

After 2 years of buying multiple plastic bottles of water every week, I switched to using a local water place where you can refill a 10 litre container from their taps. And with that 10 litres of water, I refill my reusable drink bottle with it. No longer throwing out 5-6 big plastic bottles every week.


The tap water where I live isn’t the safest to drink, hence why I buy my water.

I try not to waste things. An example is that I will use clothe instead of tissue to wipe up water or coffee stains cause it allows me to save the tissue paper for times I actually need it such as blowing my nose, or collecting crumbs. You can’t do the last two with clothe, it could clog the sink when you wash it down. I also clean my used rubber bands so they can be reused, instead of throwing them out when they get hair stuck on them.

Not even insects or bugs I have ever kissed. If my kiss drove the artificial selection today, everything would be so cute. Like there would be rabbits with gigantic eyes, cats with gigantic eyes, puppy dogs so cute that you would drop your grocery bags to hug them and you don't even mind that you broke your eggs. The whole world would be so damned cute that it would hurt us. We're genuinely hurt by this cuteness. Like, "Fucking fuck fuck fuck!" You know, everything is so damned cute. Bullshit!

But there would never be like a stray cat being run over by a car because everyone would be diving in to save them. It would actually shorten our average lifespan by over 10 years because we would now face a new rising cause of death which is people diving in front of cars to save cute animals.

I don't drive, I don't hunt, I make very little trash, I recycle what little plastic waste I have, I don't litter, I take care of and repair my property so I replace things far less than the planned obsolecence assholes would want, and I use electricity instead of burned fuels.

I also do science research on ecology, and I've helped wild animals many times.

Buying glass instead of plastic. I do waste separation and use the recycling bins. I create pdf-files instead of printouts. I often buy used electronics. In the summer I use my bicycle to go shopping.
