Why do Americans have such weak family ties, and occasionally kick the kids out at 18?

Nobody really kicked the kids out at 18 but they were expected to get their shit together and move out once they graduated high school in the 1940's to 1980's. It was easy to get a job and rent or buy a home back then. My parents got married at 20 in 1967 and rented their first apartment for $100 a month, right by the beach. They bought a house in 1970 for $30,000. Back then you could work a low paying job and still rent or buy your own house but those days are gone. Things aren't so easy anymore. Those apartments are $3000 a month now and the first house they bought is now worth $2,000,000. Americans don't expect their kids to move out right away nowadays.

On what grounds exactly? From what my American parents also friends tell me, tends to be they get to hang around until 25+ at least due to cost of living increasing, living through a pandemic held people’s futures back so parents are forgiving / empathetic to keep their children a little longer until they move their futures forward, and more factors to. Point is, Americans care a lot about their children more than you think.

that's not all true. some families are toxic as fuck and bleed you out of all of your mental health and any money you make from your job. i'd rather be kicked out.

It’s interesting I’ve noticed a lot of other cultures like Indians for example the kids live at home through adulthood but the family pulls all their resources together into an estate where everyone benefits by working together. My family the boys were left to fend for themselves in high school basically and the girls were always taken care of even through adulthood. I think it’s more of this Protestant white mentality like they’re still farmers in the Great Depression where the children were left to fend for themselves once they weren’t children anymore.

Had a friend that moved back in with his parents at 40. Never been married. Just a little ol playboy. Stayed until they passed then didn't pay property taxes.
