What is a big event that you know your ancestors were a part of?

My family fought in the American Revolution. Brother fought brother because some took the side of the British for some reason. Most of my family at that time helped the Continentals.

My ancestors arrived in the U. S. from Ireland in 1850.
They settled as farmers near the Mississippi River in Wisconsin and didn't get involved in the Civil War.

One relative fought in the Spanish-American War.

It was apparently a big deal when one of them attended the 1904 St. Louis World Fair.

My paternal grandfather was a machinist and worked on the building of the Panama Canal for a while.

My dad fought in WWII. He landed on Utah beach (not the initial landing) and fought his way through every major battle - the St. Lo Breakout, the hedgerows, the Battle of the Bulge and the battle of the Hurtgen Forest, all the way to the crossing of the Rhine and the occupation of Germany after the surrender. He was wounded twice.

That’s an amazing story about your dad. I’m thankful for his service. Your dad must’ve been pretty tough to keep going after 2 wounds. There probably aren’t many like him in my generation and under. I had a great great grandfather who fought in Okinawa.

Yea. It's amazing that he made it. He was assigned as a runner, which meant that he carried reports back and forth between the front lines and forward command. That job supposedly had one of the highest casualty rates.
But he thought it was better than being stuck fighting on the front line.

My great, great great grandfather took on the Peers in the House of Lords over a lawsuit by some of them for libel in the newspaper he founded and he won. While not a landmark case apparently it was a precursor to greater press freedom in the Victorian Era.

I won't say all of them specifically but my great grandmother came here as a result of the Armenian genocide after their mother was killed trying to save her cousin. She escaped with her sister, got separated and ended up in NY

Well I've been told I had a relative that was a colonel on the Confederate side in the U. S. Civil War (i guess my grandpa still has his uniform). That some of my family came over from Ireland during the potato famine. And that I had ancestors that were on the side that killed Julius Caeser.

Maybe I have a family of rebels... I dunno.😆

I have ancestors who fought at Blair Mountain. If they somehow found out just how much various relatives of mine spent at Amazon every year, I'm pretty sure I'd be the last one left alive.

Civil War. Dad's side of the family were abolitionists. Mom's family was in Europe till the early 1900's so not sure there.
