Why would my neighbors invite me to their engagement party but when I see them they don’t seem really interested in talking to me?

They’re both really busy resident physicians so I completely respect that they don’t have a lot of bandwidth. When we do talk they’re nice but we’re not extremely close. They invited me to their engagement party and I’m looking forward to going, but I’m also confused why I was invited if we’re not extremely close! I don't know the behavior kind of confuses me.

Maybe because of their jobs they don't have many friends. You might mean more to them than you realize. Go, enjoy. Cover them with happiness.

Maybe I think people don’t like me when they really do. I need to stop thinking everyone hates me if they don’t text me back or seem excited all the time.

I think it's more than that. You don't invite someone you dislike to one of the biggest events of your life. When you think through that list of names it's the people who touched you in some way that you want to share the happy days with. Everyone else can shove off. lol
