What do you value most in a friendship?

Loyalty. My father explained to me when I was younger that there is a difference between friends and aquinantances. Friends and drinking buddies. Friends and people you are friendly with. Friends being there for you whenever you need them and when times are tough, where as aquintances, people you are friendly with and "drinking buddies" will more than happily accept your help but never vice versa but they are always happy to attend a party, bbq, wedding, a night out and so on when everything is fun.

My best friend always had my back. We had known each other since second grade. I was best man at all 4 of his weddings. He was the only one that visited me in the hospital. We could trust each other. It is hard to describe.
