Fathers, when did you feel the first solid connection to your children?

When my ex was pregnant, and we didn't know the gender, I had a dream that involved my daughter being born with my help and then hugging me. It was at that moment that I knew her gender and felt overwhelming love.

A bit more detail - in the dream, my daughter was floating in a plastic bag filled with fluid, and it was time for her to be born, so I took a pair of surgical scissors and carefully opened the bag, at which point she somehow ended up in my arms, hugging me. As you might guess, the real delivery, in which I assisted, was a bit different :) - The only thing I cut was the umbilical cord but because of the positioning and timing, I did that in two places at two different times to be sure it didn't rupture.

This experience was possibly the most emotionally powerful experience of my entire life.

Yes, it was sort of a rehersal although it was also something I already knew how to do. At the time I had the dream, we did not yet know the gender of our baby, and I had been hoping for a boy, but that dream revealed hr gender and from that moment on I was thrilled to have a daughter. I still am.
