Growing up, my mother would sometimes slap me or spank me in anger with a wooden spoon or leather sandals. A couple times it was for not getting my math homework correct. Then another time, she smacked me a couple times on the shoulder with her hands for accidentally burning the rice or dripping a glass of milk on the floor.
My father never laid a hand on me but I feel he was no better. He was a yeller and sometimes would criticize me. A bunch of times, he used to tell me ''Why can't you be more sociable like your friend, why can't you ever do things better, etc''.
Eventually my parents divorced. Since abuse comes in all forms, is what my father did just as bad too? He keeps saying that at least he never laid a hand on me. But I feel the yelling, denigrating me and comparing me to others had an effect on me for years. What do you think? Obviously my mother abused me but is getting yelled at and criticized just as bad too?

Yes, both are forms of abuse but, if you’re going to try to compare them on a scale of which is worse, it will depend on which one is affecting you more. From what you’ve said, it seems like the verbal abuse affected you more than the physical.
If you are still thinking about these things, and they’re still affecting you in a negative way emotionally, long after they happened, that is called trauma. Trauma can come from any life experience that affects you in a negative way mentally and emotionally, even after a good amount of time has passed. Things that you keep thinking about. Things like depression, anxiety, mood swings, attention deficit disorder, and more, can stem from trauma, too, but the fact that you are still thinking about these things means they are still affecting you in some way, and the best thing you could do would be to talk to a counselor/therapist about it. I talked to one for a while after my best friend passed away and she really helped me. Please consider it. It’s not scary or anything. They’re actually super friendly and nice people.
well they kinda go hand in hand lol everyone's different in what they endured and how they responded to it
just compare it if you wanna figure out how it affected you individually but dont make it a competition of what's worse bc there's no point
If women are abusive, it’s not a thing.
If men say anything less constructive than a simpering compliment, it should be prosecuted the same as r*pe and murder.
What are you sniveling about?
