What’s an appropriate consequence when your child bullies others?

I know it's really early and I have plenty of time to raise him to be nice, but today at daycare, my 3 year old son pushed a kid off of a bike he wanted to ride.

My only punishment was to put him in time out.

That made me realize, I don't know what I'll do to punish him as he gets older of he's still bullying other children.

When I was a kid, I only bullied once and my dad took me out to his farm and made me pickup rocks, big and small, out of his field for 8 hours. I never even thought to bully another kid after that.

I don't have a farm or anything that can be as good of punishment as that was.

At age 3, your son is way too young to understand the consequences of his gesture.

I would start by explaining to him that his behavior was inappropriate by giving him an example such as taking his toy away while he is playing with it and if he is crying explaining to him in simple words, without raising my voice or getting angry, why his action was inappropriate and how he feels now that his toy has been taken away. I would try to make him understand that what he did was not right and that he hurt somebody.

I am personally against physical punishment. I believe in communicating and making him understand that his behavior caused someone to be upset just like he is upset if I take his toy away while he uses it.

Don't punish , that ridiculous, talk to the boy about the outcome for others , it's got nothing to do with punishment that irrelevant..

The kid did it for a reason beyond the obvious , talk to the child.
