How do you know the difference between a crush and a best friend?

This is quite the blurred line territory when discussing close friends of the opposite sex and whether or not girls and guys can be just friends.

I'm wondering how you can tell the difference if a guy is just extremely comfortable with you as a friend, and therefore free to touch flirtatiously, hang one on one, etc with no romantic feelings, or if there might be something there.

I personally wouldn't touch flirtatiously if I had no attraction to the girl.

The comfortable thing is a tough one. I have a crush on a girl at the moment and I am totally comfortable with her when other people are around, if it's just us two alone, I do get a little nervous.

Touching your shoulder, legs, lower back, neck, hands, chest, or playing with your hair while all while sober.

I have let platonic girlfriends sit on my lap if there is no seat for them but they are sitting on me like a kid sits on their uncle, grandpa, or Santa's lap. Hands are in view and they are more towards my knees than crotch.
