Why should you build your style on classic pieces instead of what's on trend now?
The simple fact is that what's on trend will go out of trend sooner or later, mostly sooner...
And how can you build your style on things that will soon not be in stores?! You simply can't. You can be inspired by trends, but make it your own, where you'll be 100% certain you can find the equivalent of what you admire 10, 20, 40 years from now.

Not to say style doesn't change and evolve... Of course it does, but the main style tastes of a person stay with them forever and if you can't find those ripped skinny jeans 5 years from now in stores, it's a trend (it definitely is a trend) and you can find or makeshift something similar, but it'll change just like your style will.
