All of these girls have at least one of what I wrote in the title. And none of them are goth.

So figure out what goth is. Even having all the above does not make someone goth.

I completely agree! Except the 4th one down could potentially be a goth judging by her look. The rest of these girls are merely following makeup Instagram trends. Wearing dark lipstick doesn't make you a goth, especially since it's in style right now. Plenty of goths don't wear a y makeup at all, so simply wearing a certain type of makeup does not qualify you as goth

    Goth is 3 things:

    Mindset

    Lifestyle

    Fashion

Goth is first and foremost a mindset. If you don't appreciate the macabre and subconsciously seek out dark imagery, then you're not goth. You can have the mental capacity of a goth without actively showing it on the outside. These people are often called "soft goths" because they don't show a physical display of their mindset. So you can dress head-to-toe in clothes from Hot Topic and paint your face like The Crow, but you still won't be goth unless you have a goth mindset first

Lifestyle is a other prerequisite for being a goth. Most people think this means drinking coffee at 3 AM, doing drugs, and worshipping Satan, but they couldn't be more wrong. Living a goth lifestyle means you assimilate physically into your preconceived goth mentality. This can look like someone wearing gothic attire, decorating their house the way a vampire would, or flying to every country with a gothic music festival (and not missing out of Wave Gothic Treffen). Many goths even go to Christian churches and believe in God, so many may appear normal on the outside, but still live a gothic lifestyle. Many goths also love Japanese influences and bright colors (just not wearing them), as well as enjoying nature. Anybody can be a goth, and no activity will prevent someone from elsewise living a gothic lifestyle

Fashion is considered to be the standard for goths since it's the most obvious physical representation. If someone is a hardcore goth (cyberpunk/cybergoth, gothic aristocrat, romantic goth) that is obvious by their physical appearance, but simply matching their look or makeup influences does not make you a goth. Gothic fashion stems from personal creativity. While a goth may borrow influences from other goths, no true goth will completely copy or imitate another. So if you copy another goth's clothing or makeup, you are not a goth. As I said before, since many goths simply wear no makeup at all, the style or use of makeup cannot be considered a determining factor on someone's identification with "goth"

You can listen to goth music without being goth, and you can be goth without listening to traditional goth music like Peter Murphey, so goth music doesn't count either. Makeup and clothing don't make you goth unless you have the proper mindset. If anybody in confused about this, feel free to look up Toxic Tears and It's Black Friday on YouTube. They are both hardcore goths who fully assimilate into a gothic lifestyle and wear gothic makeup in all of their videos (absolutely nothing like the pictures posted above). But they also both admit to loving the color pink and are positive, upbeat girls to listen to

You have to keep in mind that once you grow up and have a professional life it’s very difficult to go out to work or school looking like it’s Black Friday/ MM. The closest thing you’ll get is dressing in black attire and dark lips and eyeliner. You save the fishnets and pikes and chokers for late Saturday club nights. As for what makes someone goth, in my opinion it’s the music they listen to, the knowledge of gothic backstory, and most importantly their mindset. Interesting take, though.

Well it’s still not goth.. not even slightly goth. Even if you try and feel like it is, it’s still not.
Agree with last part, it needs to all be there. Not just dark clothes.
And these girls just don’t even look ‘goth’

  • Depends on what goth you mean by defination.

There is many definations for goth so they can be goths to one of the definations.
I could name every single type of goth but there is internet for that so don't see the point.

Also there is a denfination of goth that would make all these goths apart from the blonde on from the 4th pic she don't have any of denfinations of goth to be one.

    • Also just like to add the blonde one actaully could be goth just not showing it.

I am a goth but do not really show it, i look more like just a guy who wears mostly black clothes but nothing that gives away i am goth.

But i am 100% goth and i actaully think i am probably the most goth personailty wise.

Like how rick from rick and morty thinks he is the most rick out of all the ricks.

    • She had dark makeup and the other one had a piercing
I’m talking about people saying a person is goth just based on their looks just cuz they wear dark clothes etc. Dark style doesn’t make you goth

    • That's true a dark style shouldn't just be called goth automatically but it can be classed as goth for sure from one of the definations.

So tenichally it is goth, just a very loose term of it so we shouldn't really say "oh look it's a goth" or anything like that. More like goth inspired or something else.

These women you shared pictures of are beautiful, but looks goth to me and it's nothing wrong with being goth. You can be goth and beautiful too. There's no point hiding your gothness. Either you're goth or you're not. You can't have a goth style and not be goth since goth is fashion too, not only music taste. You can stop being goth stopping wearing goth fashion. Vanessa Ives is also a beautiful goth if you ask me. You may not find her goth because of your standards, but to me she's one.

  • If you're too focused on a title you're missing a lot. Unless you're trying to group people for the purpose of tearing them down, why use labels?

They might be both, they might not be, the fuck does it matter? They're likely not going to look or dress anything like that in 30 years.

I love the style, but the last real goths were the ones that helped to collapse the Roman Empire.

  • I guess it is one of those Square is rectangle but Rectangle doesn't mean it is a square thing.

Goths generally has piercings, black lipsticks, dark nails etc.

Whereas a person with those doesn't make them a Goth.
My guess is the second last one, but I'm just really guessing.

    • She had dark makeup actually and the other one had a piercing.
And I’m talking about people saying a person is goth just based on their looks is not correct. Dark style doesn’t mean goth

  • Okay. Then explain what it takes to be called or considered "Goth". You mentioned what doesn't; now mention what does.

Of course not, lots of other subcultures have piercings... punks for example.
Black lipstick, dark makeup, and dark clothes are also popular among the members of emo subculture.
Goth people don't have to be pale, some of them are not Caucasians, and not all of them have black hair, some goth girls have red, brown, or even blonde hair.
In general, I agree with your mytake, good job.

I agree, my brother is a metal head but he walks down the street and gets branded goth and has even been attacked cos of it...

people brand what they deem as different but dont realise their own ignorance is just gonna make them look stupid

  • 4d

I think it was called scene, right? Something like that.
I think we should at least call it light goth or something, it might encourage people to get into the goth movement and maybe enrich their cultural outlook.

No. Not scene. Scene is like a colourful emo
And this is not light goth. It’s not even dark, wearing a few dark items doesn’t make you dark or slightly goth

  • Goth is way more than just about how someone looks. Most do not understand the goth culture such as the literature, tv shos, movies, clubs, music etc.

People don’t know what they don’t know. You can try an educate them but don’t expect too much of some as they don’t want to know. All the want is to run their mouths and sound intelligent when they don’t know what they are talking about.
