Makeup Does Not Make a Girl Look Fake

My salutations and shout-outs to the people who belittle girls about their appearance regarding the use of makeup. You are the persons concerned in this myTake.

Natural may indeed be better to some and those may be entirely preferential. However, that is not a valid reason and a sound basis to go overboard and insult women on their use of makeup to augment their facial image by calling women fake for the use thereof.

"Natural is better. Can't afford my SO to be fake in terms of beauty."

That is a translated sentence of the most cringeworthy sentence I have ever heard in my entire time of existence in my native language.

Without further ado, I propose my points why makeup does not make a girl look fake.

Makeup is for the enhancement of inborn beauty.

In general purposes, makeup is used as the highlighter of what has been provided by genetics. Genetics make everyone distinct. Hence, there is makeup for everyone.

People who label girls who wear makeup as fake girls need to understand that wearing it is perfectly fine.

Girls who wear makeup may look fake for you but the mere fact that you see them with your naked eyes is enough to remind you that they're real and not imaginary.

Makeup can be a reflection of the character one portrays.

Apparently, wearing makeup exudes a persona that the wearer tends to express. How can that induce the makeup-makes-women-fake perception you all are bearing?

When a girl is sporting a makeup trend, she means it, loves the persona she is portraying, and enjoys the presence of cosmetics on her face.

Now tell me, how is that even fake to you?

Applying makeup is an art.

This is why the world has makeup artists.

How can harboring an interest make a person fake? Moreover, is Art even fake? It has been the truest field in the world in my own perception. Tell me.

Applying makeup as a girl's hobby, talent, and interest is a big deal. Committing to this will cost her dedication, patience, resources, energy, and time, the most valuable asset of all. It is a field of interest that has to do with a lot of adaptations, adjustments, and further customization for every individual. This involves picking the right shade, blending according to complexion and face built, getting eyebrows done impeccably, and the like. I tell you: it is time-consuming yet rewarding like any other fields of interest we have in this world.

How credible can you be if you tell her that applying makeup, that has been the subject of her life, makes her look fake and a big lie?

The seconds you would take in criticizing her would not equate the love and time she has poured in satisfying herself.

Applying makeup is a reflection of an artist's REAL skills.

Capabilities do not lie. What a makeup artist knows is reflected unto the makeup application she is going to do on her face or on the face of a client.

There is more to a girl than how she does her makeup.

Makeup is not the ultimate gauge for a person's authenticity. This is why we have social interaction; it is for determining it yourself who fakes it 'til she makes it and who does not sugar coat her words, shows her true colors, and does not even care about anything said against her.

Yes! Yes, yes, yes :) No offense to the guys here most of them say 'make up is bad' and then twist it in a way so that their preference (which is OK!!) turns into a negative about the woman. "Women who wear make up are insecure." "It's painting on your face"-aka it's stupid. "It's a dumb way to spend money."
Preference is cool. If you're ok with hyperpigmentation, acne scars, roseacea, and other things, you're great for that. Awesome. BUT maybe the woman has been picked on about it, or maybe she just loves beating her face (make up slang) And that's ok that you don't like make up BUT it's never ok to try to make someone feel like shit for something they love doing that involves none of you. :)
I love how you went into detail on how make up is about skill and it the art and enhancement of natural beauty. :) Most women who wear make up don't even wear bold elements (just a clean base and maybe some lip color), but you know what, that's cool because that's functions for them and makes them happy. Some women wear more bold elements, that's cool too :)

As someone with a preference against makeup I tried my best to come into this my take with an open mind. Unfortunately It changed nothing for me. I like face painting and costume makeup. I think that type of makeup usuage is great but the average girl on the street is wearing makeup for the purpose of looking more attractive which I don't like. I don't think she's fake. I just think she's trying to convince me of something that simply isn't entirely true. I don't think girls that wear a lot of makeup are fake but they do remind me of mcdonalds. You already know about what a mcdonalds burger looks like when you pull into the parking lot and you know the burger that you see in the ads aren't an entirely accurate representation. It's still a burger though. So you eat it. Girls who wear a lot of makeup are the same way to me. I know that the way their face looks right now isn't going to be exactly the same as the face that I'll see the next morning or after a shower or when she's sick. It's just the advertisement look. I'd rather see a burger as is because it looks more authentic and fresh to me but I know some places like McDonald's care about appearances so much that they'd never just snap a random undoctored pic to go up on an ad. I don't hate mcdonalds and I'm not mad at mcdonalds for doing that but I immediately have a tad bit more respect for restaurants that let you see your food exactly how it is instead of the ideal version. It shows a confidence in what you have as well as comfort with accepting negative judgement. And I know nobody asked for my opinion and you can feel free to disagree but I'll always prefer a clean cared for face over a makeup covered one anyday.

Well, it isn't "natural", per se. Not that I think there's anything necessarily wrong with that: people can choose to adorn their bodies in whatever way they see fit. Really my main issue with makeup has always been the fact that it's so syninymous with conforming to societal beauty pressures and standards. Not only that but when you really begin to weigh the overall pros and cons of makeup, there's not much going for it. For one, most makeup products are bad for the environment and sometimes even hazardous to the wearers own health. Also, makeup can be very time-consuming, not to mention expensive.
Which brings me to makeup's biggest problem in general: namely, the industry itself. I used to sell cosemtics/skincare products for a living and believe me, my job wasn't to make women feel (genuinely) confident. It was to make them feel good but not good enough to pass up a $60 bottle of designer foundation or a $100 bottle of anti-wrinkle serum. All that "enhacing you natural beauty" bullshit is just a clever way of coaxing women into buying more shit that they don't actually need. That's why I choose not to wear makeup for the most part, not just because of the overall ideology it perpetuates but because of the fact that it supports an incredibly fucking toxic industry. Whether or not it looks "fake" is really the last of my concerns.

Ok I disagree with you fundamentally on this topic I don't mean to degrade or insult women but makeup is by far the most stupid waste of money ever invented to keep women in a perpetual state of subservience to men. Look at makeup commercials, they more than even porn, make women seem like objects and degrade the amazing work done towards gender equality. Nothing in my mind represents the stereotype of the "good wife and woman" than someone dressed up in makeup because it makes them more "beautiful". Beauty is a lie cooked up by corporations to garner profit from self conscious people. People are, they aren't ugly or beautiful, they just are. The next time you go to buy makeup, stop and think first. Who are you trying to impress? Who cares what you look like? Anyone that matters won't. Take the money you would waste on makeup and invest it, give it to someone who needs it more, hell burning it for warmth is more practical in the long run than a product meant to demean and objectify people. To summarize this rant: makeup makes people, regardless of sex, look like dolls and not "real"; makeup also wastes money that could be used for practically anything more useful. I think there are two completely opposite ends of the spectrum and some people have a hard time finding a middle ground. There are girls who overdo it big time and do look fake, and then there are those who don't wear any at all. In between those two lies a middle ground where the majority of women are. They use enough to enhance their natural features and that is it. There is nothing wrong or fake about that.

I'm surprised there is so much dislike for makeup here, as I've never met a man in real life who dislikes even minimal to normal makeup usage.

I also think that, like with anything, there is such thing as too much, but that is the fault of the person applying it, not the actual product itself. I don't think it's fair to condemn an entire product based on how some people misuse it. Some people do not know how to control their eating habits either, but it wouldn't be fair to shame the people who keep comfort foods in moderation for eating them just because certain people eat too much of them. So I do think that the "all makeup is bad" and "all women who wear makeup are fake" ideologies are taking it too far.

I don't think make up makes a person fake, it's all rather based on people's perception of that person more than the make up itself.
For example, some guys proudly talk about disliking women with artificial features/additions like weaves, implants and make up. However the very same people go hunting down Instagram pics of celebrates who are well known for their artificial tweaks/features.
So basically this means we're accepting of make up on celeb's; but would go out of our way to crucify our day to day women if they ever even bring up make up.
That's Just a wrong perception.
All I know is Make up is truly an art:
- When well worn, it blends well and is well worth the compliments and more, it highlights certain features and does turn heads.
- Just as much as when it's not worn well, it's a sore in the eye of the beholder. I think it somewhat looks fake when mismatched with the women's completion or facial features, leaving it badly noticible, and therefore leaves the beholder wanting to see the person without it.

There's that word genetics I mentioned early which is why I find it so amazing how our definitions are so close, so exact, but then you would go and contradict it with something like makeup. If we are all so distinct and we posses these characteristics that individualize us why cover it up? You were right about one thing there is "make up" for everyone it's called your DNA.

I have never been a man who thinks makeup is terribly important, but I don't try to stop a woman from using it if it makes her feel better about herself. I only have a problem if they wear it too heavy. You are at the age all girls worry about all this stuff. People who say these things are ignorant and you should never take them seriously, nor allow them to make you question yourself. To me, a strong, independent and intelligent women is by far the most attractive to me. Good looks are nice, but they are just the wrapping over what is inside of you. A girl doesn't have to be great lookingh to be beautiful. Just be confident in yourself and do what makes you feel good about yourself. Don't get caught up in the minutia that life throws at you. Much of it is a waste of time. Just be you and if you don't like something about yourself, work on changing it. It's sometimes hard to do, but the end result is well worth the effort. I like makeup sometimes, a little worn to work, and I like watching makeup videos. I wore makeup on my first date with my partner. Is that dishonesty, or honesty? I say it's the latter. He had the opportunity to run away, or invite me swimming, when he noticed I had makeup. Neither did he run when he first saw me without makeup. We hit it off and we would have, with or without makeup.

Makeup for me is not for attracting guys. In a way it's more for status somehow the same way as dressing nicely is. We many of us do that; dress up to show off to each other and the world, and to have fun, rather than 'to get male attention'. And... look our 'best'. Like putting your best foot forward; taking pride in looking good.

I see some makeup art that really does change how someone looks. Like magic, very clever makeup art. I can sort of understand why that might put some guys off. But, at the same time - I can't help feeling like it's really cool to be able to work some magic on a very very average person and appear really 'beautiful' even if that's not how you were born. I can see both sides... but I'm not going to diss anyone for wearing makeup if they want to.

Makeup is an art, a fun art. People who are really good at it impress me. But the point where its 'fake' is when you're wearing studio/photo quality makeup that makes you look like a completely different person. When you first meet a person you only know them by the way they look. If you come to like someone and they turn out to look nothing like the way they did when you first met it's a little off putting. Like imagine meeting a guy who's super tall but come to find out he's like 4 feet tall and was just wearing stilts. (or perhaps, just standing on another guy who was also 4 feet tall.) Most women don't wear that amount of make up that changes them completely, and usually just highlight their good features with it... there are girls out there who do it to completely change their face, and some of them aren't very good at it. It can come off as someone who wants to hide their face, which may or may not be the case, but it still seems pretty fake.

Let's agree to disagree... well I guess it's ok if you don't go too overboard. A lot of girls nowadays have make-up, plucked eyebrows, fake eyelashes, hair extensions, fake nails, breast implants, fake tan etcetera. It all becomes too much, for me personally. I just really like girls who are happy with the way they look and don't go too overboard with these things. It's a turn-off for me.

My... don't know how to say it properly in English, let say cousin sister uses cosmetics all the time. Her lips are pale instead of pink due to constant lipstick use, lashes are grey instead of black due to constant use of mascara. This are few things I noticed about her. Cosmetics is slowly killing how you said inborn beauty.
Though some items can indeed help, like transparent nail polish to prevent nail damage, occasional use of special lipstick to protect lips against wind and moist them.

I'm alright with a bit of makeup to enchance natural beauty but, creating a mask is not okay. The women that wear this have something to hide. There is no need to apply thick layers of makeup. Some women need to learn to love themselves !

There's a very thin line between using make up to enhance your looks and using makeup to change your looks. Caking your face (like foundation, highlight, concealer, fake eyelashes, etc) changes looks and makes a girl look fake. I don't wear makeup bc personally I think its all fake besides mascara. No, I don't really see a use for make-up at all except for modelling, making advert etc. Otherwise it shouldn't really be used at all. You might not agree with my opinion but this is how I see the whole concept of using a make-up.

3. It's too expensive. People always say that "drugstore-brand make-up is cheap". If you are comparing them with brand names, then they are cheaper. But if you are comparing them with fruits and vegetables, then they are not cheap.
