Can a teenager still wear pigtails?

I tried pigtails once but being a guy it didn't exactly look right so I didn't keep em for long

They look better braided and a little tighter/closer to your head.
When they are the loose floppy type it looks more like a little kid.

I think it depends on what outfit you style the hair with. If you're going for an innocent cute look then pair it with pastels.
