Tan skin was originally seen as a sign of being poor, only tan people were outside workers while those that weren't tanned were rich. Now it is seen as a sign of vitality. Skin bleaching is entirely different. A lot of cultures that have practicing skin bleaching do so because of beauty standards that are unrealistic. To put things in perspective, woman all over the globe are willing to risk their health and safety to look a little less “black” and a lot more “white.”
Both tanning and skin bleaching in excess can be harmful.
Too much sun can cause permanent skin damage Melanoma or other diseases.
Skin bleaching creams cause blood and skin cancer. They also lead to skin burns, other various forms of skin damage, and ochronosis.
if 77% of women in a country are ruining their skin because there is a general believe whiteness isn't beautiful, the idea that darker skinned white people have it easier with dating and life in general. To top that up. Your sisters start getting hair from West Africa and cover their own hair their entire life. its not equivalent to skin bleaching.
I think artificial tanning is just as dumb. It's pretty much in the same boat as bleaching for me. It's one thing to go outside and get tan from the sun, but I've found that people that tan artificially do it obsessively and because they dislike being pale. Which is the same reason why people bleach. So yeah, same boat for me. Tanning is praised in the media and trendy, that's why it doesn't get a negative connotation.
'Cause it's okay if white people hate their ethnicity. Everybody else hates their whiteness too.
That's just how our society thinks these days. It doesn't make sense, but nobody cares about sense or logic.
Also, the woman on the bottom picture needs to get her shit together and not wear the same foundation she used to after that amount of tanning cuz it looks totally fucked, like damn, girl.
I guess the difference is that you can get a tan naturally and some people tan even if they don't want to, but skin bleaching is not done naturally. I don't really care what people do with their skin, if it makes them feel better about themselves, but I guess that's one of the biggest differences.
I'm sorry, I phrased that badly. I meant that you can get a tan without doing anything about it, while getting a bleach you will always have to take action. For example I'd love to stay pale all year round, but I still get a tan every summer, because staying inside all the time isn't much fun. But I still don't think people need to be judged if they want to alter their skin color.
What natural ingredients are there for skin bleaching. That sounds like misinformation. If there was such it will dominante the market or it is to expensive that common people don't see it. No such thing as natural skin bleaching products.
@BlackMaleYou There are. Rice powder has been an especially popular one in China and Japan throughout the years, particularly with nobles since light skin in such regions was associated with nobility. Things like kojic acid and arbutin have also been in use for skin lightening purposes for a very long time.
How does rice powder work for the skin that is differently? Are there no side effects? Is the skin whitening from it reversible?
@BlackMaleYou You basically mix it up with some milk and honey, apply it, let it stay on for a bit, and wash it off. No immediate results, much like anything, and you need to do it continuously in order to see results. It isn't permanent, you can of course go out in the sun and get a tan even if you've used this method. There are no negative "side effects" to speak of since there are no harsh or harmful ingredients in it, you're literally just putting foodstuffs on your skin.
The rice powder thing is much more of sun screen than a skin bleaching product. The only thing that makes it a skin lightening product is that it inhibits the production of melanin. And there are risks of over using the rice powder skin lighting. it is skin lightening not a skin bleaching product.
Maybe it's safe but we can both agree that it's not done for the same reason as tanning
@BlackMaleYou Aesthetic purposes? I mean, I'm a very pale person and I used to absolutely hate my skin, wanted to be "tan and gorgeous" like the very portrait of the American woman, so if you're saying the reasons for both methods of modifying skin tone isn't some kind of hatred and insecurity, I don't know what to tell you, cuz they both are.
You have no idea how some men. Mostly black men love that snow body. It's beautiful. U trust me.
You might have tried to change ur skin but u didn't try to get hair from West Africa and no one ever gets to see ur real hair. There are countries where 77% of women bleach their skin. Black women are trying to suit the preference that originate from white people. It's never been a thing in Africa before European and American slavery and colonization for black people to not like themselves. If 77% of white women in a country were tanning, white people will confront the situation more. Artificial tan looks funny as fuck
People make fun of dark people for being too dark, and people make fun of lighter people for being too light. You can't please anyone.

I think it would have to do with the process. Tanning is more natural, you get a tan from sunbathing. Obviously you can use a tanning bed or lotion but that is usually frowned upon where as skin bleaching, which I don't know much about but it sounds like a chemical process.
People are never content with what they have. If their skin is light they want it tan, if their skin is dark they want it pale. It’s like this with everything.
Is skin bleach same as the bleach used for clothing?
Not exactly, lol
Because only one of the groups has a politically represented victim complex.
Because black people's ego is fragile that's why. You ain't ever gonna hear one white person complain about tanning.
The ego would be "fragile" to if 77% of women in a country are ruining their skin because there is a general believe whiteness isn't beautiful, the idea that darker skinned white people have it easier with dating and life in general. To top that up. Your sisters start getting hair from West Africa and cover their own hair their entire life.
That's if u are the one who gets to say who is inferior and who is not. Your line of thinking can only come from someone with mental defects from being born of incest. What's inferior is ur inability to deal well with reality. Maybe one day there will be a cure for u so that you can be normal like everyone else.
The point u thought u made? Lol
The grass is greener on the other side. People have been modifying third aperance for "beauty" for thousands of years.
i think they shouldn't be done, its very harmful to our skin... but i think it goes back to "its only ok when white people do it"
This stuff breaks my heart. Nothing wrong with being dark-skinned, it's beautiful.
I think we'd be fine without either. They both cause too many health risks.
Don't know but fake tan is like painting yourself darker while skin bleaching actually changes your skin
That’s Ciara and it’s just the lighting she didn’t lighten her skin.
I don't really care about it. If you want to be white then go for it, if you want to be black then go for it.
Human mind works this way, no one is happy or thankful of what he or she already has.
because skin bleaching is self hatred and hatred of black people and black skin. people who skin bleach are likely the biggest of coons
I think they're equally bad... both are cancerous by the way
I've never heard of that.
They all just look like a bunch of weirdos to me.
Bleaching and tanning are both bad and for freaks.
Both are bad
