Instagram was meant to be a system for individuals. To show of their own pictures. The whole thing was specifically geared to the use of cells phones. Even the PC accessible side of the website limits users bare basics. If you use the website as a cell phone user more features are unlocked and if you use the app, even more. But people found loopholes, and the system has been greatly exploited.
I know actual models. Several who have been acquaintances for more than a few years. None are personal friends. I can at least attest for their authenticity. One has even done some film work and lives in CA. Others are here in St. Louis, with me. If I pushed I am sure I could visit them, at the risk of angering my girl friend. They do speak of the difficulties in getting good profitable shoots, and having to maintain separate jobs. Many in entertainment careers end up in these battles, it is very real. When it comes to arts, the most valued belong to the dead. The living are rarely as valuable.
On Instagram. I make it a mater of principle to block image hoarders. These so called portfolio services. Users who make a buck by pedaling in others work, and often have up to a 100 clone accounts to spam the feed. I really hate those accounts. I have been suspended at least once by nailing them to the wall. I like to see real pictures from real users, and real photographers. I will even block those who Follow me if they look like trouble in anyway, selling stuff, pictures of drugs, weapons and other questionable, portfolios. If the about section says anything about offering images promotion, I will likely block on the spot. My exception for now are a select few who do help to promote some exotic stuff, by maintaining a referenceable collection. -But these are far and few.

they are as real models as i'm a soldier on Call of Duty
Yes, because: They are getting paid for promoting stuff using their looks just like models hired by agencies do. The only difference is that instagram models are like freelancers. Saying they aren't models is like saying a freelancer developer isn't a developer just because they aren't working at a company...
Most of them no

I can put a REAL opinion on this. In a "past life" I used to be a photographer and used to work with lingerie and women's fashion companies. I've been around a lot of beautiful women. LOL.
In all seriousness, they are REAL MODELS. A lot of them are signed to agencies, have management and take real modeling jobs. The Instagram models I used to take professional photos of... they would get paid anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 for an 8 hour shoot. That's one day of work. They also help companies with trade shows by hosting the shows and they get paid $1,000 - $3,000 a day for their trade show time.
A lot of these Instagram models have nice houses and they live large because of their lifestyle. However, there are those on Instagram as well that aren't managed and they make their money by doing "private bookings" (nice way of saying prostitution), making OnlyFans account, and they also do some light modeling on the side for Instagram follows and shares.
There's 2 sides to being an Instagram model. Some are, some aren't.
A lot of regular models advertise legitimate products and brands via Instagram.
But most of these are "insta thots" who primarily advertise their boobs and asses to thirsty men who make up 99% of their following, and I can't imagine that being very effective as far as modeling goes, since their demographic is probably a lot more into fapping than buying female beauty and fashion products.
That's why they often end up selling their own "merch", to their own followers instead of collaborating with major brands.Well what is a model? Someone who's picture is taken for the purpose of selling something to the masses and is compensated for it in some way, usually monetarily.
So do instagram models fit that definition? I'd think so. They're getting their pictures taken by someone, perhaps professionally, with the intention of selling themselves, their sexuality, and a certain image for others to helplessly aspire to. Often, they can be seen holding consumer products that they're paid to hold by companies hoping to profit off their marketability.
I don't think there are any 'real models' or 'fake models' though. Just because someone isn't signed to a modelling agency doesn't mean they can't model stuff. There are people and there is photoshop. Anyone can look attractive with the right photographer, right angle and lighting, and right digital alteration software.Jesus, somebody needs to start force-feeding these women.
No, they aren't "real" models, nor should they aspire to be one. Not that I really expect people who take IG seriously to actually do something with their lives, but "modeling" is a useless "skill" if you can even call it that.No they arent' I actually have mixed feeling on how they "sell" an image (that's clearly very very attractive") Appearing as is their "daily ordinary" lives. Which we might consider It can be true but it can also be just a "pose" in order to sell a product. My concern is that models, are "emulated" and they "promote" diverse things via their image. Yet Instagram models are kind of "Instagram Kim Kardashians" they all have big lips, voluptuous figures and try to look as if they're relaxed. When they're not, its all part of marketing. Of course this is just my opinion.
One of good thing about having social media account like Instagram is that everyone can be what they want. They may not be available to be a professional model but they can do their own on Instagram.
Back to question, some of them could be, but most are not.I guess if it's their actual profession, then technically yes. If they're just posting photos and labeling themselves as models, then probably not.
I'm not really sure exactly how the modeling industry or Instagram influencer thing works, however.Yes I think they are. A lot of them do get brand deals, and lots of them have large followings- they model clothes and different products. They're still modelling, so they're models.

Somewhat related to the question, I actually watched quite an interesting discussion last night between Instagram models and runway models:Not in the classic sense but in todays world they probably are , I don't think the term modelling is restricted to the Catwalk anymore even before social media it felt like it was branching out. The top Instagram models are earning money of their pages so in a sense they are being paid to "Model".
I'm not fancy/attractive enough to be an "influencer" but I don't see why they get so much hate absent them asking for free shit when it isn't appropriate. If they're making money doing it, cool! If they do it boost their own self-esteem, also cool! If they're getting paid or getting freebies for posing with products then yes they are "real models," but who gives a shit anyway? If they aren't getting paid technically they are real amateur models.
If they’re making money from it in some way like advertising for makeup companies or clothing lines then yes. If she’s just posting sexual pictures or even dolled up ones and claims herself as a model then no.
Not really... Insta models are very particular kind of model, and the ones who are true models usually have some little extra "thing" to their profiles that feels more professional. You couldn't give most Insta models a proper modeling job because the companies that would hire official modeling talent are looking for a super specific versatility. They want a woman who photographs well, walks well, wears various styles well. Insta models are usually just girls who know how to work certain angles.
Models when I was younger were the super models like yasmin le Bon, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer... now anyone can be a model...
But to be a catwalk model is superior and only a few women can be that type...I mean yes and no. They don’t walk catwalks, but they take nice pictures and get paid. Only Instagram models with high follower counts get paid though. So I guess only some of them are like real models.
Lol, only in their imaginations. Heck anyone can claim to be a model on social media, but that doesn't mean they are one!
I honestly don't see the hype behind models and their popularity, but if they think they look good? More power to them!Good question
First let take a review of Instagram: u can be who ever u whant, u can show what ever u whant... this is Instagram.
About your answer I should say yes but they are gorgeous coz of make-up and sports u can be a model too go to gym and try to be better on the other hand some of them are beautiful coz of surgery :)Well, what’s the definition of a “model”? A standard or measure of something. A fashion model is a standard of beauty that most women wish to imitate like Kylie Jenner, Kim kardashian, etc. so I’d say yes they are, they’re a standard of beauty most women or girls wish to follow.
They are "real" in the sense that they are in physical existence, much like a car, for example. But just because a car exists, that does NOT automatically make it ready for the LeMans or Indy 500! Same for these gals, even if they have nice chassis.
Probably, some go out of their way to sponsor items they buy from big companies. Just so the company could pay them 15% for sponsoring the items. Or just get free items in return for a pic.
Since they're modelling, yes. But they are self-employed instead of employed by any modelling agency.
