This stereotype has been going on for long. For those who don't know there are women who dress up and wear makeup just to stay home. Please don't flatter yourself.
I personally like dressing to impress, not men but anyone around me, I love the attention and energy I get when I dress up. Dressing well Is a form of good manners đ you should try ittttttttt

You all do not get my point 😂🤦🏾♀️ I'm not saying it's a sin for a lady to dress to impress her partner in fact I encourage that. What I was trying to say is that there are men who think that just because women wear brand clothing or dress nice they're doing it for men. I was midway joking with this question that's why I added the "don't flatter yourself" but I guess it was only funny to me 😂😂
Men, why do some of you believe that women dress up to impress you?
This is not something I would believe or assume from anybody, but I have female friends, close friends who would say it themselves and would also say it to me "dressed to impress" and it was fun for them. They did not mean anyone in particular, just in general... they liked to look that good for the fun ot it. Although, there were sometimes in which they actually dress up in certain to way to get someones attention in particular. And yes, I knew this was not the same every single weekend or every time they went out, nor they did this with every guy they were interested on. Two of my ex-girlfriends said the same to me, that before being a couple they would dress up to get my attention (which they had already, anyway) But again, I do not assume this is the case for everyone else. Everyone is different, and even for the girls who do something like this, every situation is different as well. And something else, neither of them would have to dress on anything revealing, it would be just stuff that would just look great on their particular figures, and well... After look week days of demanding college studies, using plain uniforms and wearing little or no makeup, some weekends they just wanted to dress up to impress, and have fun.
What caught my interest was the statement "Don't flatter yourself" which is in complete contrast of what you are saying. Why is it ok for you to feel good about yourself by dressing up but not ok for men to think that women dress to impress them which in turn make them feel good about themselves? I encourage men to think that way, so they feel good about themselves just from us doing something that makes us feel good about ourselves!! It's a win win. If it's for yourself then who cares what others get out of it hun, just keep doing you! It's positive all around!
If dressing up is what makes you feel good then you feel good right off. Any other form of compliment or acknowledgment about how you look is just a bonus if you already feel like you do for yourself or for others
Well if the media, magazines and clothing industry wanted girls to sexualize themselves even more who are you sexualizing yourself for? For yourself? Because I donât need to wear jean shorts and flip flops and be shirtless to âfeel sexyâ. Especially under these circumstances today, if people assume a post Covid era will bring about the same world we had prior to 2019 I hate to break it to people but it wonât. More businesses will close down for good, more people will work from home, less people will go out due to increase in violence in cities and other urban areas. Iâm sorry but a lot of girls and women today donât seem to care about modesty. Islam and Christianity both state the return of Jesus and there will be signs leading to a new world in the future. Once that happens a huge chunk of our population will die by war or disease. Do people think Jesus will be like 👍 girls are dressing half naked because they feel âprettyâ. We all have to change our ways for the better this goes beyond âwhy do guys think women/girls dress to impress themâ. A girl who is comfortable with herself and caring father who actually values her daughter and doesnât want her showing off her body for everyone else will actually respect her fathers mindset. We normalized sexualization. I know girls who will read this and give it a thumbs down, thatâs fine. I donât go out that often because of Covid but even before Covid, I donât gawk at girls or women wearing revealing outfits. I prefer looking away and being a guy thatâs not easy. We are wired to look at women, unless a guy is gay.
Your question is in relation to being controlled, you are 16 it shows on profile you should not have to be asking that question because it shows that you or your friends or both are starting to feel like it's normal behavior to be expected of a guy, I have been lucky enough to have been in relationships primarily people would say that I'm "punching" but maybe it's because 1, jealousy, 2I know how to treat a woman, 3 I have the tools, skills, stamina and always put any females satisfaction long before my own and I keep literally every single item that you lasses need or could need that may even be embarrassing or if happening make the difference between being /feeling unhygienic /uncomfortable and nobody ever has to do the walk of shame as full beauty products range, hair care, stuff to put on, a large collection deodorants for females and forward thinking about skin types, hair types, different types of washes and wipes etc if you have to ask the question... Your not associating with the right type of lads, you can choose to say no, you can start again, think about it.
Everyone and anyone dresses up for a multitude of reasons. Comfort, weather, confidence, style, fashion, social gatherings, acceptance of others, attraction towards the opposite sex, landing a job, fancy events...
Guys, as much as girls, care about how you carry yourself. Most of the times we've encountered a girl, it's accompanied by some self-deprecating commentary, often times about their physique, and honestly, guys don't Dig that. If you're going to complain about something that to Us is of lesser importance (like hair, skin, body size, height, weight...). Self victimisation is never a good look, for anyone, boy or girl.
The only thing anyone can do when you encounter someone like that, and they throw some insecure comment about themselves, guys usually try to help by saying "you look good to me". We're not appropriating ourselves of the reason Why you dress up, we're just trying to lend a hand. Regardless of how guys respond, they're going to be guilt-tripped by giving or not giving their opinion.
So ultimately, take the compliment if you're given it, and if you're not told anything, don't assume you deserve it. That's basically how guys receive compliments. If you're told something nice, cool, if not, why would you care?
And if you say that you love the attention you get when you dress up, then why are you surprised that guys, literally the partnering gender needed for biological procreation, wouldn't think you're trying to impress them?
Because they do. I mean are you seriously going to argue that you put on makeup which mimics arousal by blushing the cheeks and reddening the lips, enhance your physical features showing off genetic fitness by highlighting the eyes and cheekbones and your hips and using push up bra's to enhance cleavege, all to what, impress other women? Either your doing it to attract men and you just refuse to acknowledge it (probably because it means having to admit you like the attention they give you when you do it), OR your a lesbian trying to attract women. Their are no other options here. Thats like saying men try to look good for themselves and don't care what women think, they could say it but no man is stupid enough to do so because its an obvious lie.
Realistically, you wouldn't know bc you're not a woman... But most of us just like to be able to feel comfortable with ourselves, and for some, that means dressing up a bit. There are some woman who do it for attention, but not all.

We can know about this because science, you are showing off secondary sexual characteristics, you are exaggerating said characteristics and trying to show off sexual fitness. These things are done to acquire a partner. Women consistently state they don't dress up for men they just do it because it makes them feel good about themselves. . . because of the attention they get (which is predominantly from men). So yes we do know this, it is for the attention of males and we have a scientific basis for it. The only issue is women seem desperate to deny this as if it was a bad thing and I haven't the slightest idea why. your not showing off cleavege for women, your not doing that because you "like how it looks" except within the context that you like how it looks because it shows off your secondary sexual characteristics which appeals to men.
Your not hearing men making up crap about how they get fit, get a good job and show off status and wealth for themselves, no, they are honest they admit its entirely to impress women. the only reason why another male would respond positively to these things that men show off is specifically because they want them so they can attract females also. Women are not mysterious or complicated, they, like all living things, function on the same basic principles that all life does.
Arguing that its done for yourself would be a sign of serious issues for the individual (obessive grooming with no desire for reproduction was a sign of societal collapse in various experiments (the mouse utopia experiment being the most famous)). Again, their is nothing wrong with wanting male attention, in fact their is something wrong with being afraid to admit it.

@Toast792 I never said I knew anything about you, I stated that women like to be checked out because biologically it means better fitness, acess to better mates, and higher status. Again, this is a biological fact that you cannot rationalize your way out of. You don't like CERTAIN people checking you out, of course, but that is not the same as not wanting some one checking you out. If its a good looking guy, you don't mind because again, biology. If its a guy who doesn't come off as "creepy" i. e. is good looking, socially aware, and confident then you don't mind. If you did mind that would mean you have some serious emotional issues you have to overcome because again, this is how pairing up and romantic relations start so you would be disfuncitonal in this regard if you couldn't stand some one looking at you and thinking your physically attractive. No you're wrong, men usually stare even when women are not dressed up and covered up from my own personal experience, and if women dress to attract men then why do they dress up in girls only colleges and institutions? Ofc there are lots of women that would dress to attract men or dress for their partner. But it's also the standards forced on women, if they show their face without makeup people call them ugly and make fun of them, so it would be also to not feel insecure.
In a way we dress to impress always for ourselves. No matter if it's a man dressing up or a woman. We usually pick clothes we think we look good in or a way 2 represent what we like or believe in and want the world 2 know. Like shirts of bands, beliefs or to shock.
It deep down has nothing 2 do with other people but away 2 feel good about ourselves and some people feel good getting attention from others some feel good by looking at themselves and saying damn. I look good and that is all they need to get out of it.

Yeah tell it to my wife and how montly she spends on clothes and make-up. She doesn't do it to impress me lol like who is she going to impress our kid? He likes military stuff ain't into a dress that costs more then ya car.
Woman dress to catch a man's attention 90% of the time and the other 10% is to look good.
What matters no matter the clothes to look good. If you see me with an expensive suit and mechanic suit I'm the same yet it's the person this days. Like what dress a bear and becomes Maria no it's a bear with a dress.
Not us, but everyone. As I've already stated, people dress to impress other people, who find them good-looking, which in turn makes them feel good about themselves. There is no point in "dressing up for yourself", because all you have is your opinion, and if you know you look good, or bad, no matter how you dress you won't change your own opinion. Dressing up is seeking validation from others to feel better about ourselves. Which is something totally normal and acceptable, there's nothing wrong in liking to be complimented, even just with a look.

To each his own, but I personally believe that there's a point to dress up for yourself, even if it's just your opinion, if you look good you feel good.
Just because a woman one time dressed up just to stay home doesn't mean she doesn't dress up for men. Whenever i go surprise a girl at her house she's 99% wearing sweats with no makeup. Just saying. wouldn't most girls be wearing skimpy dresses and heels and full makeup at home? No they 99% only do that to go out where men are. They also dont do that when they are around women. Ever been to female only places? Camps gyms girl weekends etc the girls dont even shave if they can get away with it. Yet the second men are at the gym y'all turn into the gym bunny barbies with makeup on the treadmill. Lmfao.
You're right. I get your point completely. When we go out and look our best, it's not entirely to attract male attention, although absolutely nothing is wrong with a woman attracting male attention. It could be for many reasons, mainly because we want to show people we have style, maybe set some new fashion trends, wear what we feel comfortable wearing, and not to be negatively judged for poor fashion choices. For example, I wear tight leggings and athletic tops mainly because they feel comfortable when I do my daily running exercises, but nothing is wrong with looking sexy while I do it. I don't choose to look sexy for male attention because I already have a fiancee. Instead, I choose to do it because it's stylish. Another example is when I wear something attractive and go to Walmart, I don't exactly do it to attract men at Walmart. For all you know, I dress stylishly and normally to avoid being on the People of Walmart website.
For me personally I don't believe that. I can respect girls that decide to spend a large amount of time picking out their outfit, but for me personally I am well aware that she had her own reasons for dressing up as well as myself having my own reason for dressing up so I am silently respectful of that simply by not looking in her direction unless she speaks to me for whatever reason. I'm old school so on my mind I silently respect the fact she had her own reasons for dressing up and I just mind my own business and focus on what I am doing instead of focusing on someone else.
Because unless they're not attracted to males, then they likely view dressing up as something that could boost their sexual marketplace value.
Ya know, women are very competitive when it comes to beauty, so it can easily turn into a "let's see who's the most attractive girl that can get (their idea of) the best guy. If you don't believe me, look up the female dominance hierarchy.
Women don't dress up to get unattractive guys. They dress up to get guys they find attractive or at least get the attention of guys they find attractive.
This stuff can be one of those things where we don't realize our reasoning for doing it because it's not a conscious thing we have to think about. It's part of the biological process that runs us. And it's woven into our behaviors so deeply that it can be easily cloaked in something else without given deeper thought into the real reasons.
And for the people that say they dress up for themselves:
You have to realize how everything is woven with sexuality. It's the driving force for many many of our decisions! For instance, if you find someone attractive but don't want to date (like me), it means that your brain is still looking for the best mate possible (by your standards). So even though you may not want to date them, your body is basically telling you that they'd be a viable mate for reproduction since you're don't find them hideous like we often do with deformed people.
And ofc there are many reasons as to why your body is thinking that. But I'm basically saying that even though it doesn't feel like we do things for a purpose. When we trace back the causes of our behaviors and analyze our values, we see what we're really about. Then, I think it's best to not deny the indisputable observable truth. In my opinion, it's better to accept it and morph our opinions to be compatible with it.
Why are women always so hateful about this notion and feel the need to shout it out even when no one has implied anything else? Let's stop the charade and be mature here. There are too cases where you dress to impress us. With crushes, dates and work interviews. It's not *just* for you and it's not *just* for us. I have no idea how something so trivial can be so hard to admit for many women.

Of course there are occasions where we dress to impress, but some men go to the extent to think that women wearing brand clothes or doing their makeup is for them. So I wanted to know why they thought like that.
I just see this statement by women excessively stomped in our faces even when we haven't said anything. So I don't really get the zeal. I really don't think a majority out there think women only ever dress to impress.
We can surely find many memes, tik toks or youtube vids dedicated to it when the point I'm making is; it's hardly like we walk around always saying how we are the sole purpose for dressing up.
I love dressing up dually for myself and for women. I can admit that. But some women seem like they can't. Even as we do know in all honesty that a lot of women get their confidence and mental wellness from male attention.
mix, i think women dress to impress, and like to look beautiful, so the dress like they do to look beautiful. so they do it for themselves to look hot, I've been told its so there lady friends are impressed by the way the dress. i'm not sure if I believe that or not why try to impress your lady friends.
as far as lingerie and things like sexy bikinis or underwear I'm pretty sure that's only for men because I don't see how a thong is comfortable, also thanks for the most part women are trying to attract a man. Also somehow dressing scampi is empowering to women I don't quite by that. If you want to make a case that making guys want Want to have sex with you is women empowerment or look at you like a sexual object then OK that doesn't seem empowering for women and how is that for you

And why do you get attention and energy for dressing good? Because it has beeen mutually decided within society over centuries what is worthy of positive attention and what isn't.
And who decided that? Studies have shown that women adapt those views depending on how favourable men judge them.
So yes, you do dress for men. If not directly, you still do it indirectly as part of our biological programming. And said programming is giving out rewards for doing so.
I've always been very aware of the fact that women usually only get dressed up for an "event" or because they're showing off to other women.
Trying to get a woman to dress up just for "us" makes coal mining look easy by comparison. Most guys I know, including myself, would've traded in every birthday and Christmas gift you ladies ever gave us just to get you ladies to dress up fancy for us! No overly elaborate gifts just dress up for us, personally as a gift, and for no other reason other you celebrating your love for us or the moment of our birth. Save the money for an oil change or something useful.

Women don't wear fake eye lashes, tons of cosmetics, and fancy dresses, outfits, for manners. They do it to feel better about themselves. Funny enough, many women will complain about beauty standards, yet this.

Well, I've been considered "one of the girls" and I can tell the guys, they are dressing to impress you but that's to compete with other women, basically you are the ball in the game or the judge in a talent show.
But at least some of it is direct.
But you know what I loved? When one of those chicks suddenly saw me as a chunk of sausage and forgot everything they said and assumed I had the understanding of the average male. Lol.
