Why is body hair only "unhygienic" on women?

If you keep yourself clean it shouldn't be a problem. And ik what you're thinking. "But guys shave their beards." It's not quite the same hun. A beard takes up a small portion of your body and women are kind if expected to be entirely hairless.

If hair's unhygienic why aren't men shaving their arms and legs? Shouldn't ho bald too? If my arm hair unhygienic why isn't the hair on my unhygienic? Not to mention its time consuming and if you're going to the salon to get waxed it can be very pricey.

It isn't, obviously, and I find it hard do believe that anyone believes that, so I can only conclude this is a strawman and leading question. A more honest question would be something like "why do people find body hair undesirable on women?".

Ultimately I think it's because we have features and behaviours that attract each other, like many other animals on the planet.

But why shaven bodyhair specifically? From what I can tell, women spend more time on self-care and trying to be aesthetically attractive than men do, so doing so appears to be feminine. I think it's similar to why most men don't wear make-up. So, I'd think that at some point women thought that shaving their body hair was something appealing: smooth skin, less smell, etc. This would also fit being the opposite of a traditional working/hunting man, that would be haggard and smelly after working all day. Men also have much more body hair than women, so women probably sought to distinguish themselves from men by exaggerating the difference and shaving. It's also the opposite for head hair, men's grows slower and they go bald more often, so women tend to distinguish themselves by keeping long hair.

I'm kind of sick of hearing "you shouldn't be judging people" anyway, but you putting the "It's fine to have preferences" together with it is even worse; a stupid self-contradictory platitude. If you're fine with other people having different preferences and expectations, that you also have to be fine with the fact that you literally cannot meet all of them, and people will judge or even, heaven forbid, not like you based on their preferences. Given that this was a bash on the preference for shaven hair, you clearly don't believe it anyway.

I actually clean my pits BECAUSE it's unhygienic, PERIOD. I dont force a woman to shave her bush. She can do as she pleases there tbh. I prefer a trim job though and I myself keep it trimmed. One thing I DO want in my girlfriend is shaved legs. Please for the love of God shave those legs. If I wanted hairy legs I'd go fap to Frodo. I honestly don’t care, body hair has been a symbol of beauty in France since before the 50’s (because that’s when insecure men started to arise). Anyways, I’m Hispanic with French ancestry and Have Eurocentric features …so the hairy arms are honestly unavoidable…but I learned to embrace them because it’s who I am genetically and I don’t really care what men say lol. I am a clean woman I shower everyday and groom myself. So if a little body hair makes him “ick” then that’s on him. Anyways, don’t feel insecure : ) but of course that’s your decision if you want to shave or not.

I am a very hairy guy with a full beard, my SO and my kids, nephews & nieces don't mind my hair and have never complained about smell because I groom properly and maintain my cleanliness, unlike how many people think, beards are very very easy to clean and easy to reach, all you gotta do is wash your face thoroughly and run your fingers through your beard 3 to 5 times a day... And a shower a day keeps the rest of my body hair clean, I shave my pubes and armpits every week, so I am always fresh, neat and clean.

Now, is it gross? Yeah. To most guys it is. Why? Couldn't tell you, seems more masculine maybe. Women tend to be less hairy. Armpit and leg hair specifically seems the worst to me. Don't care about the other stuff.

What I will say is this. You are allowed to grow out your armpit hair if you like. Just like men are allowed not to like it. There is a lot of shit men have to do, that they don't like doing, because women like when they do it. I think most people find hairy armpits, legs, arms, chest, belly, etc not that unhygienic (unless u dont shower or dont use deodorant) rather they considerate it unatracctive. I think they dont want hair in those areas because they want the skin to be smooth and pretty do the eyes. So less bodyhair more attractive we will see. But the thing here is that if u shave the bodyhair, they will grow longer, darker, thicker, harder and faster. Then, ull have to shave soon and then sooner and sooner. Till it gets to the point that ull turn in a walking cactus. So it hurts.

I remeber when i first shaved my legs. My legs hair was like baby face hair (i think i was like 9 years old then). You know why i did it? Because a friend of mine told me that a girl she knew did that. Now i regret it cause now im like a walking cactus. So the thing is why all this happen? Well because we shouldn't shave. Her ex made her feel like she was disgusting for having hair down there. She ended up letting me do it and it was just fine. Afterwards, she said that clearly she’s been missing out for years because of her fear of having someone down there due of her ex, and I felt bad for her.
I have no problem with hair down there. It’s natural (for most people), and I can’t imagine the thought of a woman shaving near her most sensitive parts just because of society. Hair is natural Velcro. Who seriously DOESN'T think hair is unhygienic. It's the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, especially if it's in warm moist spots, like a woman's crotch blanket. Hair is a perfect trap for dirt, grime, and even insects.

Also, no one expects a woman to be completely hairless. Just to not have an afro in front of their vagina or to have ANY armpit hair, facial hair, or excessive leg hair. Most men don't care about arm hair or light belly hairs. So even if your argument was true, you'd only have to shave your legs and pits once a month or so, which is still less than what men have to do with their facial hair.

I once again agree with what Nomoturtle said. I too am sick of women bitching about men having preferences while at the same time dismissing 90-95% of men as too short/ugly/broke to date and whatnot. I think you might be confusing others "judging you" as a person versus "personal preferences of attraction" when it comes to body hair. Some guys might react the same way though, but I believe it's all about physical attraction and what they've been taught to find stimulating.

It's not "unhygienic", it's unattractive.
Women don't want the same level of hair removal in men. Women good great without hair. But they don't like men doing the same thing. And it's further complicated by, messaging like guys should have some hair in some places, but those preferences vary too much across the female population, meaning guys responses are going to be varied as well. Then women interpret this reaction (or lack thereof) to the absence of clear messaging as "only women's hair is unhygienic", when really it's because it consistently looks good, thus the request for hair removal is consistent. And again, women's preferences don't' provide the same consistency for men. That's all this is -- and it's more to women's advantage.

I say this to men and women both, your body hair is not unhygienic if it is regularly washed and groomed properly. The only hair that can cause smell, disease or discomfort are the pubes and armpits as they are covered/closed/compressed and get less exposure to sun and air throughout the day and night.

It all comes down to one thing. Body hair is masculine, not feminine. Most men don't like body hair on women but most women like body hair on men.

I would be happy to shave my body if it's what my woman wanted. I dated one woman who liked me shaving my groin area but have never been with any other woman who wanted me to. They said they liked my hair natural and shaving it would be "unmasculine".

Armpit hair is unhygienic. It collects odors and dirt. I keep it trimmed there myself so I wouldn't want a woman to have a huge bush of hair on the armpits.

Overall though, women biologically don't really have as much hair as men. Women's arm hair for example isn't as thick unless genetics dictate otherwise.
