Why are women’s bathing suit so revealing and men’s are so baggy and frumpy looking?

I was having this conversation with my girlfriend. She likes the big baggy board shorts on guys. But I always thought they look like clown shorts. Meanwhile, her bathing suits have less
fabric in them than the pockets of my board shorts have. Which got me wondering, why are guys expected to wear these big baggy frumpy shorts and women show off their bodies in revealing bikinis?

It's mostly cultural preference. Women are "supposed" to ahow of their curves, thus tight ones are easier to allow that.
Men "should have" broad shoulders and a six pack. The focus isn't on the clothes embracing that. I guess

Most guys look better in board shorts than in a tight Speedo. And don’t envy girls because of our swimsuit options. Trust me, many of us (me included) have a meltdown every time we go to buy a new one.

Couldn’t you just wear the board shorts like the guys do? I’ve seen those tankini ones too. Also, should guys wear rashguards or swim shirts if they don’t have much to show off in the abs department?

@KatherineJ Ugh tell me about it… I don’t even bother with swimwear, I just wear an old tshirt and spandex shorts.

Yeah I hear ya and agree. I used to swim in high school and college and I guess got comfortable wearing speedos so I do most of the time. They are more comfortable and better in the water. My girlfriend is cool with it
