Now that I just turned 40, can I continue to wear shorter skirts in the American South during the summer. They sure are cooler. A friend was saying that she doesn't believe that ladies over 40 should wear short skirts. I still have the body. Should I or not?
Oh gosh, you're from the South too? Well I feel your pain. Yeah, people down here, especially around the Bible Belt tend to be judgy about what you wear, especially if they don't think it's "age appropriate."
I will say that once you get older, people will judge you more based on your clothes: short shorts, skirts, low cut tops... even if you have the figure for it, people instantly think, "you're too old for that!" and think you're trying to look or be younger as a result.
Wear what you want. Look, if you look good in it, wear it in a tasteful manner, and it's as hot as it's been here lately in the summer? Screw them!
Let that “a friend “ be just a friend or maybe less. Sure you can wear whatever you want. It doesn’t matter if you still got the body at 40, even if you don’t then so what? This is America. Be a new time lady
Wear what you think you can and what you feel comfortable with. Just know that other people will (rightly or wrongly) judge you for it. They shouldn't (but they will) tell you what to wear but just the same you cannot tell them what to think. Particularly in the American South when it comes to women's clothing and skirt length.
Put on a short skirt and watch the heads turn. I assume you'll know the difference between heads turning out of admiration and heads turning because you have no business wearing a skirt like that.
