I like the black top and black leggings. Just a casual outfit and if she is wearing a dress, then you not outdoing her outfit.

I sometimes think about these things, where if it is the persons special day or anniversary, I don't want to potentially overdress and them not be impressed with me.

I think it does slightly depend on the friend and if you are trying to impress anyone in anyways. But the dress is always a good party outfit and it is gorgeous! My second choice would be the courses and pants look but I think that would be more if you wanted a sexy look over a party look.
