Why wear mini skirts than shorts? What is better and why?

I have a great regret that girls and women feel this urge to wear mini or micro skirts than shorts.
The pencil skirt that is knee lenght or slightly shorter ok. But mini or micro skirts seem rude and sexist to me.
So why do girls and women choose to wear them than shorts? Shorts much saver and cooler to me.

I wear skirt with the length mostly mid thigh. Shorter than that I don’t find it beautiful.
I like skirts more cos it’s more convenient in my opinion. More flexibility to change in a fashion way.
