Girls, what are your thoughts on artistic nude pieces?

I once saw someone on r/feminism claiming that it objectifies women and reinforces societal beauty standards.

But I've always seen it as more of a celebration of the female form. Our bodies aren't just "sexy" they're beautiful, nurturing, life giving things. in my opinion, the reason such pieces more often depict women isn't to appeal to the male gaze but because more women see their body as something to be celebrated. Not only that, being the subject of such a piece boosts self confidence and see their bodies beyond the lens of what society sees as acceptable (which has been grossly skewed by the influence of social media).

And as for "reinforcing societal standards", what standards? I mean if you look at some artistic nude pieces, I mean yes more often than not the women depicted are in great physical shape but at the same time they rarely fall into the Instagram elite. You know, the 1% of women who have those perfect hourglass torsos, no hip dips and genetics that put fat in all the right places. A healthy physique is a healthy physique no matter what society you're in and it should by all means be celebrated and encouraged. There's nothing wrong with setting a high standard for health and beauty; the problem is that too many of us are exposed to unattainable standards.

If any of you are thinking about modelling for it I would totally recommend it. If you do it once every so often it's a great way to stay in shape. And if you do it with a friend or two, it's an awesome bonding activity (plus on top of developing your own body confidence, you learn to not hate but appreciate the beauty of others).

Yet my body type comes along, it's immediately labeled as disgusting and unattractive because society shoved perfection down everyone's throats.

Last but not least, skinny doesn't automatically mean healthy and being chubby doesn't mean unhealthy. I'm 5'0", and if I lost at least four to five pounds I'd be perfectly skinny. If a myth turned real, then I should have tons of health problems.

We need more "realistic" body types, not ones we see in magazines as most people are average. Women like me also have saggy NATURAL boobs, but of course NATURAL nowadays means unattractive and disgusting.

Sure, I'm fine with nude photography. But make it realistic. Not every woman in the world is tall, perfectly skinny, and has perfect boobs. It's stuff like that where it has caused me depression, anxiety, and of course body dysmorphia.

Oh yeah, before someone screams at me, "oh so you believe in fat acceptance."

I am a nudist when it comes to drawing. I can only draw naked people. It’s beautiful!! I don’t know how to use color either.

I personally love them. When I was first exposed to them, I found that it made me appreciate my body more. Growing up, I was picked on for being too skinny to the point where people would sometimes joke that I had an eating disorder (I didn't). I was picked on for having a small butt where people would joke that I needed seat cushions so my tail bone wouldn't dig a hole through a chair... I was picked on for having big boobs l, and since I had a very skinny frame, I was told kine looked fake... I was 12 when those comments started. I would do my best to ignore them, but they do bother to a degree. But seeing nude art showing various bodies of different sizes, colors, showing scars and hair, I did feel better about myself. I did eventually get some done for myself (in no small part from my best friend nagging at me to do it). I recommend it. Doesn't have to be to share with the world. Doesn't even have to be for a significant other. Could easily be just for you.

Yeah, seeing your body like that is also a great way to motivate yourself to stay in shape so you can do it again :)
