Anonymous(36-45)1 yIf you are serious about being a model, the first thing you have to learn is, there are about a million other you's that also want to model and think they can model too. The success rate for those that are able to sustain any type of career in modeling is only about 5%. If you are okay with those terrible odds, then you must also accept that you are going to get rejected A LOT. Everyday, every week, every month. This can crumble your self-esteem if you let it, but remember the actual odds of success. You will need luck, perseverance, to use your skills, and to learn skills valuable to modeling agencies.
Second, in order to surpass the other you's out there, you've got to take it very seriously and dedicate real time and effort to it. You didn't give any details of what you've done, but try to get in with a modeling agency, find a modeling agent, go to modeling classes, and go where there are frequent castings available. You may need to fly to another state or drive elsewhere locally to find where the good jobs are. Get PROFESSIONAL headshots and a portfolio by someone known to the industry. This may require you to spend some money, but it may pay dividends.
Being on the short side, you might have to consider more catalog work as they aren't as picky, or getting in with local shows that need weekend models for things like college fashion/beauty shows. Professional fashion runways usually cap the "shortest" height at 5'9 with a dress size between 0-4. For catalog work, usually they cap the shortest height at 5'7, with a dress size between 2-8 (unless you are specifically doing plus size wear). They are more focused on proportional sizing, bust to hip ratio (something you may not be able to alter even with the best diet and exercise plan out there, b/c your genetics do factor in).
Consider your look. It might not be what is current or what they are looking for now. This has NOTHING to do with you as a person, but more to do with what is fashionable in the industry for those casting agents. You might need to wear contacts, cut, grow, curle, straighten, or color your hair, or change your make-up look. See a dermatologist if your skin is not clear and/or find a routine that gets you clearer skin b/c they do like a fresh face that doesn't require a lot of make-up. You also need to make sure your nails are nice and natural with pedis/manis. Ask online, and at agencies, if your head shots reflect what these agencies are looking for? Get a professional consultation and styling done by again, people in the industry that work with other models. (Do your internet research if you don't know anybody personally).
Lastly, have a back up plan and do something else other than try to be a model. This can be and remain your main goal, but don't let it consume you and define you. Do something to take your mind off of the rejections because those can really suck if you hear enough of them.

If your pics are getting rejected you're either (1) sending them to the wrong places; (2) not cultivating a proper portfolio for the places to which you're sending your pics; (3) represented by a really sucky agent (or NOT represented at all, which is an automatic rejection).
Some gals are fortunate enough to get referred by their career centers (at school) if they're majoring in a fashion-related field. But in these cases they're juggling school and work and traveling to Paris/London for fashion weeks, etc...
(FYI: Typically, if you're under 5'7 many agencies WILL tell you that you're too short. Your agent should recommend "petite" modeling opportunities for you.)00 Reply

If you are having trouble , then the best thing to do is try to market yourself , make an Instagram or a tik tok displaying your modeling pictures and try to get yourself a lot of followers , once you get a lot of followers , then sponsors will reach out to you wanting to promote you and help you out. I don’t model but me and my brother and best friend are trying to open up a brewery , because we been brewing beer and growing Hops , We started promoting ourselves on Tik Tok and Instagram and so far we are facing a lot of support , sponsors have been reaching out to us wanting to support us on our beer journey. So as long as you keep promoting yourself and getting followers you will more than likely get a huge following to the point sponsors will stake you on board and pay ya money as well. Interact with your fans by doing live streams on a regular basis so you keep your followers supporting you on your modeling journey. Best of Luck , don’t give up

1 yMy father was a "hand model" in a photo shoot.
I was an "filler-inner/extra" for a commercial where I once worked. (You can barely see part of my hand in the final edit). Very interesting experience. The shoot involved food, and every plate of the food had to be made identically so that the takes could be seamlessly edited. I got to leave after 40 takes, and a second bunch of employees came for 20 more after that!!
Our younger daughter was a model for a Halloween item "hanger card", that hunk of folded cardboard at the top of the bag containing the item being displayed.01 Reply- 1 y
Your sheet might need an overhaul. Get a model photographer to shoot a few head shots, and some poses, to start building a portfolio of comps. modelsmeetphotographers. com is a site that pairs up aspiring models with photographers. You might be able to make connections that way. If not, sign up with a couple of agencies that take "newbies". If you know anyone else in the trade, try to tap them as connections. I wish you well.

Why would you want to model anyway? If you are not 5'9" or taller, you are not what the market wants and market doesn't care about what is fair. There are 3,200 models in the USA and almost all live near NYC. 1,600, the lower half, all earn less than $50,000 a year.
You are 18, so, with tips, you would earn more at Hooters. If you are pretty enough to get a few modeling jobs, you would be hired at Hooters. That is certain, and you don't have to live in NYC. Excluding the supermodels, most models retire by age 20, because of lack of demand for models that are not teenagers.

1 yI have a friend that modeled for VS, she absolutely HATED it! They own you! She had a dress code she had to follow when in public, they basically told her who she could have as friends and be seen in public with and she was on the road like 200 days a year. She started dating a kind of local celebrity, which the agency liked but they didn't want her to be to public with it. She didn't care lol they fell in love, got married and VS dropped her 😂😂 She hadn't been that happy in her life!

If you're attractive enough to model for VS, you're attractive enough to model for just about anyone else. I'm not sad for her, she got love and probably a line of other companies who would hire her in an instant.

@SixFootSexy Yes, she definitely had offer's and continued modeling but she was able to do it locally. Magazines, certain designer's, some runway modeling... she would do some regional modeling, so she did travel but rarely, she was more in control of deciding with gigs to take and made decent money. She hasn't done any for a while, she has three young daughters and works at home for an advertisement company.

1 yTough thing to get into. Only a handful of people in the world get enough work to make a living from it.
When I was your age I met a girl who was already successful model at 18. Yes, she looked the part, but I don't think it's a coincidence that her father was a well-known actor. So she got the connections through her family. In some fields, and I think this is one of them, connections like that are everything.
My advice, no matter what you do is to be sure to have a good backup plan. Get a college education first and then you can focus on a possible modeling gig on the side. But I think the education should be your main focus now.
10 Reply Yes I do. That really depends what sort of portfolio you want to build. Instead of spreading too thin focus on what really motivates you fashion, fitness, commercial, swimwear etc etc. There are many reliable agencies you could get yourself acquainted with as a beginner and then move your way up the ladder.

1 yI sure wouldn't use this platform as a place to advertise for work, especially modeling (I could only guess some of the responses from the Trolls) as the likelihood of finding any legitimate offers would be nil to none. Most large cities would likely have several different modeling agencies which you could contact and it's not always tall stringbean types that are sought after. I'm sure to get successful as a model it's got to be a tough nut to crack. Good Luck however!
10 Reply You might not qualify to become a drugged out runway model hooked on ozympic but you could be a self employed online model
Just build a following on instagram and get a few contracts for gym clothes and supplement modeling and the like
It’s not an easy market to break into
Even if you ARE pretty enough for it10 ReplyYou might try hand modeling, foot modeling, or go for nude modeling. None of these require a tall girl.

For start got to a pro photographer (not too expensive), most of them give you some advises if you're photogenic. With photogenic I mean some people can be just 7-8/10 but on professional photos they look 12/10, but sometimes it works in another way around.

1 yWell it’s kind of unfair to reject someone simply based on height. You can’t really control how tall you are but at the same time people judge tall people too so I don’t know what to tell you.
I don’t know maybe some things are for the best models deal with some very sketchy offers so you never know if maybe God is saving you and it’s for the best.
00 Reply331 opinions shared on Fashion & Beauty topic. I don't think there's much you can do. If clients are not looking your type of look then agencies won't want to sign you or promote you either. I knew some guys in highschool who wanted to try and be models and they got photoshoots done and stuff but never got any work. They just either want you or they don't that's just kinda how it is. And even if they want you they might still treat you like shit from what I've heard.

1 yI can imagine it's like being an actor, it's a matter of being fortunate enough to have the right look, and know the right people.. While you're a pretty girl, and definitely above average face and body type, you look more closer to being Instagram like than classic model type.. I don't think Gag is the best place ask this..

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yIf you are this sensitive for the hiring process you won't like the cut throat industry itself. There is no compassion. You either fit what they are looking for or you do not. They will not work with you. They do not care how you feel or that they made you cry, not when there are a hundred other girls waiting in line behind you for that one spot in that one job.
00 ReplyIt all depends on the kind of modelling you want to do. Only catwalk models need to be very tall, and that's incredibly hard to break into.
Being a model on Instagram, collaborating with brands etc, you don't even need to be tall at all.
Modelling for fashion websites, again you don't need to be too tall... Many fashion models are about 5ft5. Then there's petite modelling as well, 5f5 3 and below.
