What do you do when a girl sends a picture with no words?

I'm not good at Snapchat lol. This girl is kinda cute. She will send streaks and I will send streaks, but then she'll just send me a selfie with no words. If I say something to her such as "Hey" or "What's up?", She will respond with another selfie with no words. After that I usually don't reply. I do want to talk to her though. But I feel like there's some unwritten Snapchat rule I don't know about. Can someone fill me in? This happens a lot with girls.

If she saw your message, she can either be playing hard to get, hoping that you would talk to her in person instead of online, or just sends selfies in politeness of keeping streaks and not leaving people on open. Or maybe she's like me, socially awkward and hoping it doesn't get more awkward by avoiding conversation with people I don't know well. Depends on what she's like
