The first 'makeup' photo only seems normal in our culture because we're continuously bombarded with photo-shopped images of models wearing makeup. This is not at all surprising considering that the cosmetics industry has not-so-hidden agenda that they want to make money selling products, and they do this by convincing young, impressionable women that they are ugly when they don't use their products – creating a need that never used to exist.

To put today’s obsession with makeup into context, life on this planet was doing just fine before the cosmetics industry was created. Consider also that our species is consuming the planet to oblivion, and consider what we could do to live more sustainably. Ditching things that are superficial, resource-intensive and adding gigatons of plastic and chemical waste to our ecosystem like makeup is an obvious choice.

Regarding your question about which is more attractive, I think our cultural obsession with makeup has blinded a lot of people to what makes a person attractive. Looks are superficial. It’s our personality, values, standards, and brains that matter more to a lot of people.

When a girl chooses to go au natural and not wear makeup to a party or other social situation, THAT makes her attractive to me, because it tells me something about her values, that she’s possibly more conscious of her ecological footprint, and that she’s strong-minded enough to resist the marketing hype and peer pressure.

Why do we take pictures? I was thinking about this last night, as I was watching couple girls take a photo of themselves, dressed up, for dance night, once a week at a bar I go to. I like both pictures, but the second pic definitely feels more genuine, and maybe adds an element of "trust factor" - she's willing to let you see her without her "mask" of makeup. Some of us really like that, especially in a world where so much is fake.

Top one is just boring attractive. Like yeah, it's good but obviously the makeup is there and it just looks utterly generic and conventional, loads of women look like this is makeup and it's boring.
