Is the idea of being the "alpha male" in dating overrated?

We hear ALL THE TIME about being "the alpha male", how women always seek "the alpha male", "the alpha male" is more highly respected, etc.

o be frank the term "alpha male" imo is being so overused that it lost its meaning.

Does anyone else think that the whole idea of every male MUST be striving to be the "alpha male" to attract women, to be overrated? Is being an "alpha male" necessary for attracting women?

What is sexy about the alpha male is that he is confident, assertive, knows what he wants, and takes care of his girl.

What's annoying about the alpha male is that he is arrogant, aggressive, sexist, and doesn't let his girl make any of the decisions.

On the other hand, we have the "good guy".

What is sexy about the good guy is that he is intelligent, funny, sweet, cares about our feelings, and values our opinions.

What is annoying about the good guy is that he is is passive, lets us make all the decisions, has low self-esteem, and does not make us feel "protected".

If you can successfully combine the good qualities of both the "alpha male" and the "good guy", you will be hot stuff.

u don't have to be a complete alpha male, just don't be all gawky and wimpy. I think alpha male is just a term meant for confident guys because usually someone who is confident will be automatically respected and have an easier time talking to women. I don't know if alpha males consider themselves alpha males tho..but non alpha males can still get girls, just less numbers of girls and probably won't get the really really gorgeous girls

Good question.. It really depends on the girl. I'm a pretty assertive female. I can't have a soft, sensitive type who will let me run them over. But, I can't have a guy who is all hardcore 'i am man' bullsh*t...because I I want to be coddled and adored. HA! maybe that's why I'm single.. can't find one that's justttt right.

Bottom line: Be you and the right girl will find you :)

Well not all men can be the alpha male. So it's almost fortunate that there are men out there who think it's stupid and are unwilling to try. It makes it easy for me to see the difference between the men I want and the men I don't.

This stuff has just gotten silly and sorry if this sounds smug but anyone who uses alpha, beta or what ever in anyway shape or form I automatically tune out their argument.

I think striving to be an alpha male or beta male is overrated immature and foolish if the goal is to attract women. At 40 years old, with successful and attractive heterosexual women in my family, social circle and one that I'm in love with, I am very aware of what most women that I've ever met or I would hang out with actually one. This is much different than what I thought at 20. If the goal is to attract women or a woman, your best bet is to be humorous, positive, motivated, and genuine. The last thing you want to be is striving to be something that you are not. If there is such a thing as an alpha or beta male, you are that you are just it. You do not have to strive to be it. I am considered to be an alpha male, however, I was raised to be responsible for myself and all of those around. Think strategically protect the herd and be a nice guy while doing it. I have always been like that. It's not hard for me. It's actually hard for me to not be like that. Hence why prison was not for me. But for the short time I was there, I made sure everyone who was back home was taken care of. I led others who were there who had the same qualities as me and I definitely pissed off a few bullies that had no intention of physically challenging me. You want women? Be yourself? Have a goal premature and the best advice I can give is to somehow show them a life they want to be a part of.

In some ways yes, in others no. It's important for a man to have confidence, but there are plenty who take it too far. I think sometimes, it gets to a point where being the "alpha male" holds some men back from maturing.

No it isn't an alpha male is someone who does not seek approval for doing or saying something he wants therfore he is supremely confident. That dosnt mean he has to be a jerk, if he does he his automatically a beta. Betas want to be recognized so badly as alphas , that they look stupid and give real alphas a bad rap. A true alpha male does not need to push himself onto other he does'nt try to become an alpha, he knows he is one

I think it is. At least in my experience, the alpha gets the girl.
